National Training Session
The Second National Training Session for Cohort 13 of LEAD-AWA Associates took place from August 25-29, 2008. The main topics that were considered including the following, among others:
- The United Nation System, Environmental Governance and Sustainable Development
- GIS as an Environmental Analytical Tool
- Pollution and Transformation of Ecosystems: Compliance, Monitoring and Control
- Climate Change and Impact on the Environment
- Corporate Social Responsibility, and Reporting Environment and Sustainable Development Efforts
- The Transport Dimensions of the Lagos Mega City Project:- Prospects and Challenges
- Group Dynamics – Skill Module
Project proposals
BNRCC RESEARCH :After a successful submission of a proposal on expression of interest on the BNRCC Research Project, LEAD AWA was invited to submit a full proposal for a research project titled “Climate Change Adaptation Knowledge Gaps – a Study of the Level of Awareness and Knowledge Base on Climate Change and Adaptation Measures and Knowledge in Nigeria’s Manufacturing Sectors .
Fellows
Mr. Olabisi T. ONI, LEAD-AWA Fellow, Cohort 9 was recently appointed as the General Manager,First Securities Ltd.
Mrs. Gwen Abiola Oloke, LEAD-AWA Fellow Cohort 12, is leading an NGO in Nigeria focused on capacity building and environmentally friendly development.
The NGO is currently running a Sport Academy within the Niger Delta region in Nigeria. The main purpose of this Sport Academy is ‘’ to gather and divert the energy/multiple talents of the teenage group and the restive youth away from violence to profitable activity’’ which will also boost development in Nigeria in the region. It is also to mould academic excellence amid sporting activity in the Niger Delta region, Nigeria.
The NGO is currently soliciting for partnerships and sponsors for developing strategies, adapted curriculum, case studies for best practices, and hard wares for the Sports Academy. For more info, please contact Gwen Abiola Oloke
First National Training

The Project on Evaluation of UNDP/FGN 6th Country Programme on Energy and Environment was completed.
