LEAD India - Activities Update
Second National Training Session
Cohort 13 Second National Training Session was held in Madurai on the theme of Energy and Climate Change with special focus on Renewable Energy. The resource persons involved in this training were Mr. Kapil Mohan, LEAD India Fellow from Cohort 10, Mr. S N Srinivas - PO- Energy and Environment, UNDP, Mr. Sampat - TIDE Bangalore, Mr. Hemant Lamba Auroville Pondicherry, Mr. Vasudev - Vivekanand Kendra, Kanyakumari. The Associates appreciated the content and the knowledge imparted by the Resource Persons. This NTS was hosted by Covenant Centre for Development, Madurai headed by Mr. N Muthu V, LEAD India Fellow from Cohort 11.
It was decided in this session that the Associates would now directly go for the International Training Session in Mexico city in November, thus completing the requirement of attending three training sessions along with submission of their LEAD Associates Project (LAP) reports by October this year.
All the Associates have shown a keen interest and feel the necessity of an NTS 4 sometime during January 2009.
First National Training Session
The first National Training Session for the Associates of Cohort 13, took place from 19th April to the 24th April. The topic was Climate Change vis-a-vis Social Responsibility. Once again the expertise of LEAD Fellows were relied upon and they helped to chalk, design, plan and execute the entire NTS as Facilitators and Resource.
Stakeholders Focus Group
Eight opinion leaders of which 7 were LEAD India Fellows, attended a focus group discussion initiated by one of the largest global banks at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi on the 28th of April 2008 to review the Bank's sustainability strategy. This focus group was attended by representatives from the media, the government, the non government sector and CR experts. The meeting was also attended by Trevor Rees from LEAD International and Pragya Tara and Ekta from the LEAD India Secretariat.
Workshop held in Uttaranchal “Community Based Tourism-Concept, Practice and Indicators”
LEAD India, in collaboration with the Forest Department of Uttarakhand with support from the Ford Foundation held a workshop on community based tourism in Uttaranchal from the 15th to the 17th of April. The first two days of the workshop were attended by twenty people, representing the local tour operators and resort owners and non governmental organizations including W.W.F, the Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti and UDGAM. In addition to those working with the Corbett tiger reserve in various capacities, a representative from the Bamboo board and three representatives from Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam also attended. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Carolyn Wild, an international expert on ecotourism. She used her expertise in designing this workshop to facilitate the learning of the local people on the concept and practices of community based tourism. She has also begun the process of the development of relevant indicators to monitor sustainable tourism in Uttarakhand.
Delhi Youth Summit on Climate Change
As a part of our continued efforts in the field of Climate Change, LEAD India closely interacted with the youth of Delhi to conduct a two days Delhi Youth Summit on Climate Change. For this big event, LEAD India collaborated with Indian Youth Climate Network, Fountain of Development, Research & Action (FODRA), United Nations Educational Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Youth Parliament Foundation. The Delhi Youth Summit on Climate brought together the youth of Delhi to begin the dialog on Delhi’s fate in the wake of climate change. The summit took place on May 28th & 29th, at Teen Murti Bhavan (Nehru National Museum & Library)
Climate Change Leader's Structured Meeting
LEAD India is organizing a two days structured meeting on 16th and 17th June 2008, with the British High Commission Project and their regional advisory councils along with BHC representatives to familiarise them with project objectives, help bring them on a common thinking ground and plan to select 60 climate leaders and implementation of other project activities.
