Professional Fellowships Programme under Commonwealth Professional Fellowship

Abey George and Theresa Subban have won a prestigious Commonwealth Professional Fellowship Award which will fund a three month research placement at the LEAD International Secretariat in London.

The Fellowship is offered by Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, UK, and seeks to enhance the skills of mid-career practitioners in developing countries. Priority is given to visits that have practical application in the areas of education, engineering, environment, governance, public health and technology.

Abey George, currently employed as a faculty member of Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA), will work for three months from September with the LEAD team on developing a training module that will equip local institutions in the state of Kerala with skills and knowledge required to understand the importance of local adaptive measures in combating climate change.

Theresa Subban, South African senior policy analyst, will start the Internship in January 2009 for three months. The Fellowship will serve as a platform for the exchange and transfer of skills between South Africa and the UK and it will develop a collaborative approach in respect of research and continued learning about Ecosystems, Poverty and Human Settlements, Climate Change and Corporate Social Responsibility.

LEAD will keep encouraging Fellows to apply for the next edition of this programme.
