LEAD India produces film series - Thin Green Line
LEAD India produced a film series titled Thin Green Line in collaboration with Aradhana Kohli Kapoor a LEAD Fellow of Cohort 5 which was aired on Doordarshan, an Indian Television channel. The Series focused on discussions with school children and eminent environmentalists on all sorts of topical environmental issues. LEAD India planned a series of events around these films by screening at appropriate venues for debate and discussion involving eminent personalities, concerned citizens and children.
For example, the film on Economic Development & Environmental Degradation was screened at the India Habitat Centre, where 31 children and teachers from 6 schools in Delhi participated in a very lively and extensive discussion with a panel which included Professor MGK Menon Patron of LEAD India, and Manju Bharat Ram a Director of LEAD International. The discussion was chaired by Nitin Desai, President of LEAD India and former UN Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affiars.
Students from the Modern School were so impressed by the film that the school asked LEAD India back to show the film to all its students and to work with the school on a programme of discussion and interaction around sustainable development.
This support for the Thin Green Line Program has been echoed by support for further screenings and dialogue by the Department of the Environment in India. It has now been agreed that LEAD India would organize monthly screenings for 200 school children at a time over the next two years.
LEAD India is also exploring the possibilities of translating Thin Green Line into Hindi so that not only the children of the English speaking schools but also the children from the Government Hindi speaking schools could also benefit.
