SDDs in Brazil
The UK-Brazil Sustainable Development Dialogue was formalised during the Brazilian State visit by the signing of a joint statement on 7 March 2006. The Dialogue is designed to strengthen ties in a broad range of policy areas and provide leadership on sustainable development.
Areas of focus include:
- Natural Resouce Protection and Sustainable Management
- Climate Change and Energy for Sustainable Development
- Sustainable Consumption and Production
- Poverty and Inequality
- Capacity Building and Institutional Development
- Science for Sustainable Development
Projects implemented under the SDD themes included:
On Natural Resource Management: sustainable fisheries and sustainable forests, biodiversity conservation through economic incentives, combating deforestation, ecotourism development, exploring forest canopy biodiversity, landscape restoration
On Mainstreaming Sustainable Development: Multistakeholder engagement in SDD
With Private Sector and Financial Institutions: Strengthening CSR practices, PPP, eco-finance
On Climate Change and Energy: research and awareness raising on impacts of climate change, vulnerability and adaptation measures, innovation and investment in renewable energy, capacity building for climate change lawyers
On Poverty Alleviation and Social Exclusion: DFID in Brazil contributes to the objectives set out in the Regional Assistance Plan for Latin America by primarily seeking to enhance the poverty impacts of the World Bank and Inter American Development Bank operations in Brazil and the region.
On Human Rights: capacity building within the Brazilian criminal justice system and Improvement in Prison Management Project
