The purpose of the International Training Session is to equip emerging sustainability leaders from around the world with the knowledge to understand the challenge of climate change and the will and capacity to take a leadership role.

Trainers introduce relevant and current sustainability topics through a mix of presentations, interactive panel discussions, skills modules, place-based case studies, site visits, peer-to-peer learning, and individual and team projects.

The aim of this process is for participants to develop understanding on the theme and formulate personal responses that reflect their own positions and responsibilities.

The training will empower leaders to take action by addressing critical themes including:

  • Deforestation and climate change
  • Carbon offsetting
  • Adaptation
  • Renewable energy

When exploring each of these themes, Associates will be encouraged to consider the following cross-cutting issues:

  • Gender
  • Development
  • Justice / Equity
  • Implications for developing the post-2012 framework

LEAD’s approach to training is based on tested adult-learning methodology that is experiential, learner-centred, participatory, highly dynamic and also enjoyable.
