LEAD 2.0 - Learning and Network Work Stream
The purpose of the Learning System and Network Platform work stream is to design and develop the core LEAD 2.0 offer and delivery mechanism. The work stream will build on the market research and will survey learning practitioners and LEAD Fellows in order to identify the concepts and methodologies that are required in a next generation learning system.
The work stream will also include the development and build of the technology platform that will provide an integrated delivery mechanism for both virtualised learning and the LEAD Network platform. Additionally, the work stream will capture and curate learning materials from within the LEAD Network.

Progress update:
08/12/11
• After a number of months of research, we have decided to use Moodle - an open source solution – as our choice of learning management system.
• To support the new development of learning modules in Moodle, LEAD plans to host a “Moodle Camp” in early February 2012 . The aim is to build LEAD’s capacity to create Moodle online learning courses, engage with external Moodle experts and develop a set of courses for LEAD 2.0. These will be based on the new LEAD competency set which is being developed with Ashridge Business School.
• We are currently scoping out potential providers for our technology platform to support the Network and will be sending out tender requests to a number of companies next week. As part of our research we have been in touch with Mario Gouvea, a former LEADnet Director.

• Member Programmes have exchanged learning materials through a Curriculum Swap; our ultimate aim is to produce a repository of the key learning products that LEAD has created in the past 20 years.
• A survey of National and Regional Programme Directors was undertaken at the International Session. The results will help to inform future conversations about the costing of cohort training across the network, marketing requirements and the balance between e-learning and face-to-face training.
• The International Session was also used to launch a survey of Fellows which will help us gather information about the skills and learning techniques that are most appropriate for sustainable development leaders.
• This workstream is now developing a new competency framework for LEAD 2.0, an exercise which is currently being conducted through a number of consultations (LEAD Fellows, LEAD Associates, LEAD Staff, and external sustainability experts) and a scan of existing competency frameworks.
• The team has been scoping out the key features of the new virtual platform that will support the LEAD Network. If Fellows would like to suggest ideas or contribute to the platform development process, please contact Katie via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . We would also be very grateful for advice from anyone with experience in designing, building or procuring these kind of platforms.
• The LEAD Africa Fellowship Programme has been identified as one of the LEAD 2.0 pilot programmes and will host an international design workshop to develop the next stage model for LEAD training, linked to LEAD 2.0. This will be held in Dakar, Senegal from 19-21 December 2011.
