‘We have a lot of resources here. But instead of exploiting them all we should conserve something for our future generations.‘
Haseena T.P.
Teacher (Hindi)
‘Having completed my training I started facilitating awareness programmes in our local community. From this project I have got the feel of community participation. I feel that if an MPA is declared in Agatti, the community would support it.’
Sabeena M.
Teacher (Hindi)
Thajunnissa N.M.
Agatti Coral Reef Monitoring Network
‘The training was wonderful. The sessions on marine protected areas (MPAs) were very interesting. I have got to learn a lot about MPAs. If our MPA is successful we can have a good reef, and I believe the fish stock would improve in our lagoon.’
Anwar Sadique K.P.
Student (History)
‘I feel as a facilitator I can use my new knowledge to unite the Agatti community for the lagoon’s conservation. If the project is successful, the Agatti community is going to benefit from it.’
Anwar Sadique P.K.
Project Giant Clam Volunteer
‘I learned a lot about the reef ever since I began volunteering for Project Giant Clam’s survey group.’
Salahudeen V.K.

Shukoor

‘People wish to learn about the reef, its use and the threats the reef may face in the future. I feel that with the help of this training I can do a lot of community work for getting islanders’ support for our lagoon’s conservation.’

Karamathulla Shahib

‘I got many opportunities of participating in training during this project. Every year I learn more and more about sustainable development. In 2006 I had the opportunity to visit the United Kingdom and meet several organisations working for sustainable development. This is an achievement in my life.’
