LEAD Europe 2005 Highlights
Fellows Training programme:
2005 was a very important year for LEAD Europe. It resumed its activities by restarting the Fellows training programme with participants from 11 countries including Albania, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lebanon, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Romania, Serbia, Spain, USA.
Participants of the LEAD Europe Fellows Training programme had a total of 15 contact days in three 5-day sessions in three countries: in United Kingdom focusing on food systems, in Hungary exploring common poor resource management and in Switzerland on society and politics and intergovernmental system. They had the opportunity of participating in optional on-line learning sessions for four days prior to each face-to-face session.
Fifteen graduated as LEAD Europe Fellows at the final training session on Exploring the Intergovernmental System in Geneva in October 2005. Their Fellows Training projects presented at the session were on various topics of sustainable development, ranging from promoting the development of sustainable timber purchasing, to strengthening the constituency and financial sustainability of the society for the protection of nature in Lebanon, to organic farming in special nature reserve in Serbia and Montenegro.
International scholars of the Masters for Professional Development course – jointly developed and implemented by the Forum for the Future, and validated by Middlesex University – have also joined several LEAD Europe & USA sessions in Geneva to create greater synergy and cross-sectoral communication.
Several LEAD Europe Fellows also received international exposure to the wider LEAD network by participating in international training sessions in Senegal (August 2005) and in India (February 2006).
LEAD Europe Fellows Training sessions have greatly benefited from the partnership with the following organisations, their generous intellectual and in-kind contribution:
- Imperial College’s Faculty, Wye, UK
- Balaton Group’s Members including Dennis Meadows
- The Hungarian Environmental Minister, Balaton, Hungary
- Haute Ecole de Gestion (HEG), Geneva, Switzerland
- UNEP and other UN representatives, Geneva, Switzerland
