South Asia Leadership Course for Young Leaders in Governance, Sri Lanka

The South Asia Sub-Regional Leadership Course for Young Leaders in Governance is part of a series of events aiming to strengthen governance capacities of young leaders in the Asia-Pacific region, in recognition of their role as powerful agents for change.

This sub-regional leadership course builds on the success of previous events, expands the number of young leaders to be trained, and continues to produce adapted modules for leadership development in the region. The training course will feature modules pioneered and tested by LEAD International.

Leadership Curriculum

The training curriculum will be designed around the modules that have been developed by LEAD International, including systems thinking for transformational change ; conflict resolution and negotiation ; cross-cultural communications for leadership ; and team building and networking .

In addition, development/thematic modules on anti-corruption, capacity development, indigenous peoples, and gender, have been developed by RCB to be deployed as an integral part of the leadership course. These modules will be adapted to the Asian context, and training participants are expected to further adapt and apply these modules within their respective sectors and countries.

Who can participate

The training course will involve young leaders working in government (e.g., young parliamentarians, young civil servants, young elected representatives in local governments, etc.) or in areas that support good governance (e.g., young lawyers, young media/arts/communications persons whose work highlight governance issues, young NGO leaders whose focus of work pertains to governance, young university professors, and young business leaders, among others).

Participants will be selected and invited to participate in consultation with UNDP country offices and partners in the region.

The sub-regional course is a six-day training event, to be held from 16-21 October 2006, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
