Themes

Sustainable development is a large all-encompassing concept that is sometimes best viewed from a particular thematic focus. Our network and trainers have identified nine themes that we believe represent the full spectrum of activities within sustainable development. For LEAD, these themes are entry points that lead to other issues and need to accommodate many aspects of sustainable development. Combating climate change has strong links to sustainable energy or food security. Health promotion is intrinsically connected to poverty alleviation and so on. All the case studies attached to these themes have been developed for our international training sessions and adopt a cross-sectoral and cross-disciplinary approach. We hope that they illustrate that the LEAD approach is to build bridges between different viewpoints and perspectives and find the common ground necessary to build a sustainable future.

Each theme includes an introductory paper, taken from our CD-ROM Sustainable Development in 9½ Chapters available from earthprint.com and also lists relevant training materials and members of our network who are expert or have an interest in the theme.
