LEAD Europe Programme: The Big Learning Journey

trainLondon to Brussels and Mexico City: National, Regional and Global perspectives

In June 2008 the LEAD training team and 20 participants will set out on a learning journey that will take us from the heart of London to Brussels at the centre of the European Union. From Brussels in September 2008 we travel to a mega city – Mexico City – for a mega international training event in November. There we will be joining over 100 participants from 13 LEAD Programmes and over 40 different countries for a multicultural, cross sector experience focusing on sustainable cities.

LEAD Europe Programme Overview

The unifying theme of all thirteen LEAD programmes in 2008 will be climate change and sustainable cities. Within this framework the LEAD Europe programme will explore national, European and global perspectives. Each module will address a number of specific themes such as leadership for climate change, the European Union and energy, and sustainable urban environments?

London EyeLondon core theme: Leadership and climate change: closing the gap

What are the challenges and opportunities for London as a European capital, and who is taking the lead in the areas of sustainable urban environments, transport and carbon markets?

Eu flag thumbnailBrussels core theme: The EU and Energy

What are the leadership challenges and opportunities for the EU around climate change and energy, and can the EU spur the USA and China to greater action?

Mexico CityMexico City core theme: Sustainable Urban Environments

With half of humanity already living in towns and cities, it is projected that in the next 50 years, two-thirds of us will be living in urban settings. A major challenge is to minimise burgeoning poverty in cities, improve the access of the urban poor to basic facilities such as shelter, clean water and sanitation and to achieve environmentally friendly, sustainable urban growth and development.
