Biography

Bayu LUDVIANTO is a lecturer in Bioconservation, Marine Biology and Biostatistics at the University of Bengkulu, Sumatera Indonesia. He has a PhD in Marine Biology from james Cook University of North Queensland, Australia. During the period of 1999 to end of 2001 he was the Program Coordinator of the Small Research Grants-Integrated Conservation and Development Project (SRG-ICDP) at Kerinci Seblat National Park, Sumatera. The project was funded by the World Bank and it aimed to support biodiversity research conducted by more than 130 local researchers (from NGO's and academia) at the provinces of Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatera and West Sumatera. As a Program Coordinator, Bayu coordinated 49 groups of researcher and monitored the progress of those research during the two years period. During the period of 2000 to late 2002 his interest was on applying Mathis Wackernagel's concepts of Ecological Footprints for local and national issues like forest encroachments, natural resources depletion, and urban waste management. Witnessing the difficulties to promote environmentally sound practices by companies, and big businesses, Bayu took the liberty to make a 'turn' in his life and become a businessman (by involving himself on an International Network Marketing Business). He is hoping that this business will open a window for Bayu to 'see' the environment issues from the real businessman point of view (and not from the employee point of view). This way, he hopes he can promote a better approaches to make environmentally practices as a 'talk of the town' among business communities. In the beginning of 2005 he and few friends establish an NGO called Pronasa in Yogyakarta. His position is as Education Director. Pronasa is one of training centre in Yogyakarta.
