Mehrdad NAZARI

Biography

Mehrdad Nazari (MSc, MBA) has over 17 years of international experience in environmental and social risk assessments and auditing, application of Corporate Responsibility/CSR principles, and advising project developers and financial institutions. He was previously a Project Manager with Dames & Moore Germany (now URS), Principal Environmental Specialist with the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD, UK), and Director of Corporate Responsibility Research at CoreRatings Ltd (now Innovest and DNV). Mehrdad's project experience spans Central and Eastern Europe, CIS, Latin America and China.

Currently, Mehrdad is the Senior ESIA and CSR Advisor of Prizma LLC, a consulting firm, and assists his clients by making their projects more bankable, credible and sustainable. Recent projects include advising the Compliance/Advisor Ombudsman office of the IFC/MIGA, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, on issues involving community complaints and institutional compliance; leading a socio-cultural-economical impact assessment of a world class mining project in Venezuela; assisting with resettlement planning in China; developing and delivering short courses on IFC Performance Standards and Equator Principles; and developing a short course curriculum on the sustainability reporting framework of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Mehrdad studied geosciences and business administration in Germany, US and the UK. He was a Fulbright grantee and is a Fellow of Rockefeller Foundation's Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) program. Mehrdad also serves as a Director and Vice President of LEAD Canada Inc, a Member Program of LEAD International. He has developed and implemented initiatives dealing with biodiversity offsets, stakeholder dialogue, conflict resolution, and trans-boundary oil spill response. Mehrdad has also chaired conferences and participated in international initiatives associated with mining/extractive industries.
