Biography
1959-2008
Deepti CHIRMULAY, a medical doctor with a specialty in pediatrics, worked in the field of community health for 12 years with a voluntary organisation engaged in integrated rural development: BAIF Development Research Foundation, Pune. She planned, implemented and monitored health development projects and was involved in training staff and community members.
Interested in health education, nutrition and preventive medicine, she engaged in research for health systems, health policy, child nutrition and women's reproductive health care.
She was involved in the promotion of primary health care by training local village health workers and standardizing curriculum for them.
She traveled extensively in the interior and tribal areas in India and abroad, and received training in Health Systems' Research, social and qualitative research and epidemiology.
She also worked with GTZ- the German Agency for Technical Cooperation as training and research officer for the Basic Health Programme, Mahrashtra.
