Biography

As “General Manager - Technical” with ESSAR Oil Limited, Dr. Chakravarty is spearheading several initiatives of strategic relevance. These include concept to crafting and leading Total Carbon Strategy and Management encompassing organization wide initiatives on CDM, Energy conservation through Energy Pinch approach to Refinery process optimization, New & alternate technologies and applications.

Prior to this assignment as “Chief Technologist”, at Essar Excellence Centre, Essar Group, Dr. Chakravarty was leading business relevant Technology Identification, Assessment, Incubation and IP creation; to catalyze business smart futuristic orientation in process and technology for the group companies in three verticals: Energy/Power, Oil & gas, and Steel. His primary focus areas include; Carbon Management; Energy Technologies and Renewables including Solar, Fuel cells; Gasification; Coal to liquid; Technologies on Energy Storage; alternate Fuels and latest bio-refinery areas.

Prior to being affiliated to Essar Group, He was with TERI [Formerly – Tata Energy Research Institute] at Bangalore. While at TERI he had setup its operations at Moscow, Russia and at Bangalore, he had been credited for setting up “Centre for Renewable Energy” and “Centre for environmental Studies”. He came to TERI after having a stint at industry being Senior Manager at the Ankur Scientific Energy Technology [ASCENT] Pvt. Ltd., Baroda. Prior to that his professional experience includes academics and research as the Head of Action Research Centre on Biomass Gasification, Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamilnadu, India.

Being an Engineer by training he has a Doctorate in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. During the past 19+ years of post Ph.D. professional career, Dr. Chakravarty has been involved in wide varieties of Technologies primarily in the areas of Energy, Fuels, bio-refineries to areas in Lasers, Gasdynamics, Computers, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Combustion.

Dr. Chakravarty has more than 60 publications in international and national journals, conferences, technical reports and books in the areas of technology, technology applications, policy etc. He is affiliated to professional bodies, reviewer for International Journals, Chaired / delivered Invited lectures / Panelist in International conferences and summits. He has so far received several National fellowships and awards including that from Government of India from University Grants commission and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. Dr. Chakravarty is currently a Lifetime FELLOW, of LEAD having taken the LEAD training in COHORT-6
