Biography
Priti JOSHI joined the Centre of Sciences for Villages (CSV) in 1987, and has since developed a method of composting dry and green biomass. CSV is an organization that gives a platform for scientists and technologists to develop technologies for the rural sector. She started working on biodegradation and the corresponding role of fungi in biodegradation of plant and animal waste materials. She has developed an easy and efficient method of composting using both dry and green mixed biomass that can be decomposed into good manure within 30 days using the biodung method. She is currently involved in the field optimization of this method in five villages of the Wardha district. The technology is intended to benefit rural artisans, farmers, women, and the rural community as whole. She is also conducting agronomical studies and soil studies in collaboration with the Land and Environment Management Division, NEERI. Other research at CSV is focused on biogas, composting, rural housing, agriculture tools and implements, plant-cover management, wild honeybee (rock bee), and the making of banana stem boards.
P. Joshi has a Ph.D. in botany. Her thesis was entitled: 'Decomposition of Organic Materials With Special References to Thermophilic Fungi'.
