Biography
Ramiro Fernandez is involved in the civil society movements generating multisectorial dialogs within public and private sectors in sustainable development issues with AVINA Foundation. Based in the Patagonian Andes, has been the representative of this Latin American NGO in Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) until June 2009. He is currently member of the Latin American climate change team, closely involved in the reform of the energy policy in Chile and other initiatives related with renewable energies in Argentina.
During the last 10 years he participate in the start up of AVINA Foundation in Argentina and Chile, working with local leaders to increase their impact and strengthen their own leadership skills and networking capacities, specially in governance and participatory democracy issues. He started as a national level in Argentina and decided to focused in the Patagonia region for the last 7 years where he’s been closely involved in the creation of the different projects and platforms as for example the creation of a Biosphere Reserve in Cape Horn region, a Corporate Social Responsibility forum in Patagonia. www.foropatagonia.com, a regional network of lawyers committed with human rights www.epadhes.com.ar, the introduction of permaculture through the creation of two different centers. www.cidep.org.ar, the start up of a network of the 5 strongest NGO’s in Patagonia

He still very much related to outdoors activities as mountaineering and kayaking when he has the chance.
