Biography
Mona Datta is a senior schoolteacher at the Vasant Valley School, New Delhi, India. She has been selected for ILEP 2010 and is currently pursuing International Leader’s in Education Programme at the University of Alabama, in Huntsville.
She has over 15 years of experience as an educator and brings with her a rich experience of educating students from Kindergarten to grade -12. A passionate environmentalist, she guided a group of students in creating Navsrujan – New Life, a project designed to transform the existing school building into a Green Building by introducing eco-friendly changes. They earned the fourth position in the country in 2008, at the CII-Young Indians Green Building contest. In 2009, their second project won the second position, which is being implemented in their school.
In 2007, she took part in the Yamuna Yatra, a twelve-day tour of self-discovery. The aim of this challenging expedition is to explore the ecological, social, cultural, spiritual and political facets of the river.
In 2005, she attended the Creative Thinking Summer School with senior school students at Trinity College in the University of Melbourne, Australia, taking part in teacher training workshops and other activities. She also undertook training in ‘International First Aid’ conducted by the medical cadets organization, Israel and Ritanjali, in August 2005.
Mona was nominated by her school for the Intel Teach to the Future program in 2001, and earned a Master Trainer certificate. She trained ten teachers thereafter in the effective use of technology in classrooms.
She has developed the middle school curriculum for Geography. She has also contributed material for the pandemic section of the Health Line text created by Vasant Valley teachers to suit the needs of adolescents. Mona has a Master’s degree in Geography from Delhi School Of Economics.
