Satish Balaram AGNIHOTRI

Biography

Satish Balaram AGNIHOTRI is currently Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India (Rashtrapati Bhavan New Delhi 110004) since May 2007. He earlier worked as Transport Commissioner, Government of Orissa, Secretary Women and Child Development Government of Orissa and Consultant to UNICEF Kolkata on Policy analysis and Child nutrition. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1980, and has held executive positions in the State of Orissa in regional administration, industrial development, environment, renewable energy, urban development, women and child development and Transport. His current research interests include gender inequality, policy research on infant and child mortality and child nutrition programmes, use of mapping techniques in social policy research, diffusion of appropriate technology and development of biogas technology.

His work on sex ratios has been acclaimed by scholars internationally. S.B. Agnihotri, whose hobbies include playing the flute and reading about Indian mythology, holds a Ph.D. and a master’s degree in Rural Development from the School of Development Studies, University of East Anglia, Norwich, U.K. He also has master’s degrees in Physics and Environmental science and engineering from IIT, Bombay. He has been awarded the Distinguished Alumni award from IIT Bombay in 2002.

His book on 'Sex ratio patterns in the Indian Population' has been published by Sage. He has also written a book of satires 'Mitti Ke Raston kaa desh in Hindi. He also writes science fiction in Hindi apart from satire.
