Stanislav  Shmelev

Biography

Dr Stanislav Shmelev is a specialist in ecological economics with experience in international project management and research undertaken for the Sustainable Europe Research Institute (Austria), St Petersburg State University (Russia), The Open University (UK) and UNDP.

Stanislav is an owner of an NGO, Environment Europe, which specialises in ecological-economic research, and organises interdisciplinary workshops and conferences internationally. The latest project of Environment Europe is a series of workshops on "Sustainable Cities", two of which were held at St Petersburg State University, 2006 and University of Oxford, 2007.

Stanislav taught Economics of the Europen Union at the University of Essex (2005-2006) and has given invited lectures at the University of Oxford (UK), University of Cambridge (UK), University College London (UK), University of York (UK), University of Gloucestershire (UK), University of Buckingham (UK), Sustainable Europe Research Institute (Austria), Statistics Norway (Norway), Free University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), European University of St Petersburg (Russia).

Stanislav's research interests are in the areas of theoretical and applied aspects of ecological economics and sustainable development, ecological-economic modelling at the international, national and regional levels, sustainable urban and regional development, issues of corporate sustainability, complex systems science, as well as issues of sustainable development in Europe and Russia.

Dr Shmelev is the President-Elect of the Russian Society for Ecological Economics, is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Energy and Environment Research Unit, The Open University. Stanisav Shmelev is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Ecological Economics and Statistics.
