Biography

Joerg GEIER is Director of Custom Programmes of Cambridge Executive Education of Cambridge University’s Judge Business School (www.cambridgeexeced.com).

Joerg is responsible for designing content and advancing customised programmes in executive education. He identifies growth potential and develops key accounts. He conducts needs assessments with clients.

He worked as the Deputy Secretary General of the Club of Rome (www.clubofrome.org), an international think tank of eminent scholars advocating long-term global thinking and action for the improvement of our societies (5/2005 to 12/2007), and the chairman of tt30 (international), its offshoot of young professionals (08/2005 to 12/2007).

During his professional and academic career, Joerg has taken on positions at a range of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. He managed project teams, represented groups at international conferences and co-organised panel discussions on various issues concerning international affairs. Other professional engagements included associate at management consulting firms and work as an analyst at a corporate finance boutique with a focus on strategic capital transactions.

His responsibilities included the assessment of small and mid-caps and the evaluation and compilation of business and financial plans. For an HR management-consulting project Joerg put together progress reports, project plans and other deliverables. Critical project evaluation and assessment helped derive action steps in regard to the recruitment of new employees.

Joerg completed a 2-year MBA programme at Golden Gate University, San Francisco (USA) in 2003. For his studies, Joerg was bestowed a Fulbright scholarship, a programme that promotes peace and understanding through educational exchange. It is considered one of the most prestigious award programmes and it operates in 144 countries. Based on his academic achievements, upon his return to Germany Joerg was invited to join the selection committee of the German American Fulbright Commission to interview and choose new grantees.

Earlier, in 2001, he graduated with a Bachelor in European Business from the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster (Germany) and the University of Portsmouth (UK) in a joint degree programme.

In 2007 Joerg completed as a LEAD Fellow after a 3-week personal training programme in three countries. LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) supports the development of leadership skills and expertise in the field of sustainable development and was originally established by the Rockefeller Foundation. Joerg received a Jefferson Peyser Memorial Scholarship for outstanding service to the World Affairs Council of Northern California (2003) (www.itsyourworld.org) and was awarded a grant for excellence in education (2002 and 2003).

Public talks included a panel discussion on Nigerian television on the background of the Digital World Africa Conference 2006 and its impact on Nigeria (Abuja, Nigeria, September 2006) and participation in a roundtable on Globalizing Democracy: Making Democracy Available to All, involving the Senator of the Federal Senate of Brasilia and other eminent speakers (São Paulo, Brazil, August 2005). Moreover, Joerg delivered the keynote speech on Leadership in a Global Society at the Global Young Leaders Summit, Vienna, Austria (June 2004), sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council (www.cylc.org). On German public TV (ARD Morning Magazine, May 2007) Joerg was interviewed on the issue of “Change of Habits Instead of Climate Change”.

Joerg enjoys running and meeting new people from different cultures.
