Biography
Elizabeth ATKINSON is the Senior Policy Advisor at the Government of Canada's Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Directorate. In this position, Elizabeth manages multi-jursidictional and multi-stakeholder relations and provides expert policy advice in the development of options and strategies to address climate change impacts and adaptation in Canada.
Elizabeth works extensively with inter-governmental and multilateral working groups to formulate, present and advance environmental and socio-economic policy positions and initiatives. She co-chairs the intergovernmental body responsible for developing and implementing the National Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Framework.
Her previous positions with Natural Resources Canada involved the design and development of a greenhouse gas emissions trading regime, including the implementation structure and legal framework for the trading system.
Elizabeth has worked extensively with multistakeholder process design, implementation, and facilitation for local, national and international programs. Her experience includes leading a variety of research and multi-stakeholder initiatives dealing with high profile public policy issues at Canada's National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy.
She holds a Law degree from the University of New Brunswick, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Memorial University in Newfoundland and a diploma of Applied Arts in Business Administration. Elizabeth was called to the Canadian Bar in 1992.
