Biography
Luis M. SERRA, is Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Zaragoza, Spain (http://www.unizar.es). He has taught courses in Thermodynamics, Thermal Engineering, Thermoeconomics, Eco-efficiency and related areas.
He has participated and led several research and development projects on energy systems and energy saving in general and particularly on thermoeconomic analysis, process integration (polygeneration) and environmental assessment, e.g. thermoeconomic diagnosis of the integrated gasification combined cycle power plant in Puertollano (Spain), thermoeconomic analysis of combined production of water and energy in the dual purpose power and desalination plant of Al Taweelah (Unit Arab Emirates) or the Life Cycle Assessment of combined water and energy production technologies.
Serra has been the co-recipient of the best paper award on Advanced Energy Systems from ASME (Edward F. Obert Award 2003). He has served as consultant for the Administration and for companies, e.g. Elcogas, Endesa and CLAS, and has participated as researcher and project manager in CIRCE Foundation. He is member of the EDS and ULSF, and has served as member of the international scientific committee of several international conferences. He is author and co-author of more than 60 papers and books, has been invited as keynote speaker at international courses and conferences, and is member of the editorial board of Energy The International Journal and Int. J. of Ecodynamics, as well as reviewer for several international journals, e.g. ASME Journal of Energy Resources Technology, Solar Energy, and International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment.
