Biography
Ndey-Isatou Njie has twenty-four years experience in environment and development, managing strategic framework processes for sustainable development at local, national, and regional levels, public participation, policy development, learning, monitoring and evaluation, and institutional development.
Ms Njie is presently UNDP Regional Coordinator and Senior Adviser for Africa, responsible for the management of the Capacity 21 regional coordination mechanism for Africa, including coordinating the implementation of the Capacity 21 programmes in Africa. Her past positions include Executive Director for National Environmental Agency, Gambia where she was responsible for the strategies for sustainability programme and evaluating strategies in Africa with the World Bank and IIED. She was also Executive Director for The Gambia National Environment Agency (NEA) and Principal Executive Officer for Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Government of the Gambia and also Principal Scientific Officer for Department of Water Resources, Government of the Gambia.
As an independent consultant, she developed strategic objectives for NESDA (The Network on Environment and Sustainable Development in Africa) and worked with USAID in Guinea Bissau and with UNDP in Swaziland. Ms Njie has a degree in Microbiology and postgraduate qualifications in Environmental Science and Technology and Water Resources Management.
