Biography
Darwina WIDJAJANTI became Executive Director of LEAD Indonesia in December 2003. She has devoted more than 15 years of her career in non-profit organizations. She had been a Senior Researcher at the Center for Policy and Implementation Studies (CPIS, an organization that provides policy recommendation paper to key government decision makers). During her term at CPIS, Darwina involved in Solid Waste Management Project, a project partnership with Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID), which then adapted by the World Bank and disseminated to 22 provinces under the Ministry of Public Works. The other long project she involved was 'Integrated Pest Management' in partnership with Bureau of National Planning and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The project had led into a presidential decree to band certain pesticides widely used in the country, and the method of IPM was disseminated across the country.
In 1994 Darwina joined The Nature Conservancy (TNC), a leading conservation organization in the US. As Director of Program Development for TNC Indonesia office, Darwina was responsible for the development of program initiatives, fundraising and external relations. She gained extensive experiences in management issues, external relations crisis, and initiatives of local resources mobilization that support conservation efforts. She smoothened the process of integrating national foundation, Indonesian Natural Heritage, into TNC, where it took her to the latest position as Senior Advisor at TNC Indonesia Program.
By mid 2001 Darwina started to work with Tifa Foundation, an Indonesian funding agency associated with Open Society Institute, as Program Manager in Capacity Building. She was responsible to develop program for strengthening the capacity of non-profit organizations, community leaders, and to research. During her term at Tifa Foundation she initiated the development of NGO accountability and transparency principles, disseminates the importance of Integrated Program and Fundraising Strategy through training, and promoting Conflict Prevention Scheme in prone conflict areas through community leaders (mostly in the area that has abundant natural resources). Under her supervision research conducted in Banten and Lampung to have profile of civil society organizations in the area, developed database of experts in NGO capacity building. In her term Tifa has partnership with Civil Society Strengthening Program (USAID), Ford Foundation, Public Interests Research and Advocacy Center, and the Danish Embassy.
