Biography

Simon Lyster became Chief Executive of LEAD International on 1 May 2005. He was previously Director of Development.

Simon joined LEAD in 2003, having been Director General of the Wildlife Trusts, one of the largest nature conservation organisations in the UK, for seven years. Before that Simon worked for WWF for nine years, where he was responsible for WWF's global policy work on international conventions such as the Biological Diversity Convention and CITES.

Simon is a lawyer by training, qualified in both the UK and the United States. He has a PhD in International Wildlife Law from Cambridge University, has authored a book entitled International Wildlife Law, and is a member of the International Council of Environmental Law. In addition to his LEAD responsibilities, he is a Trustee of Conservation International - UK, the World Land Trust, and the Kilverstone Wildlife Conservation Trust. He is also a non-executive Director of Northumbrian Water Ltd, with particular responsibilities for sustainable development.
