Biography
Patricia ARCEO conducts research on sustainability of marine resouce management (the case of the National Park: Veracruzan Reef System)in Centre for Ecology and Fisheries of the Veracruzan University in Veracruz since January 2005. The project is founded by the Science and Technology found of Mexico(CONACyT) She used to work in Yucatán for the National Fisheries Institute of Mexico (INP). The INP is the consultant body for the management of Mexican fisheries. She first joined the INP in 1986 in the Regional Center for Fisheries Research of Yucatán, where she was an assistant researcher with the red grouper (Epinephelus morio) fishery. In 1987 she started to work with the spiny lobster (Panulirus argus) fishery as part of a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project for the WECAF region. Since 1991 she has maintained primary responsibility for the spiny lobster fishery in the INP. She has published several articles related to the red grouper and spiny lobster fisheries, with a bio-economic perspective.
Currently is proffesor for the graduate program of the Centre for Ecology and Fisheries in the Veracruzan University. She teached 'Natural Resource Management' in the Marista University of M�rida, Yucatán from 1998 to 2003. She received a Ph.D. in June 2000 and a master's degree in marine biology (fisheries) in 1991. Her doctoral dissertation was 'Towards a Precautionary Approach to Fisheries Management: Results from a Simulation Model', and her master's thesis applied a bio-economic analysis to the spiny lobster fisheries in Yucatán. She was awarded a Fulbright scholarship in 1993 for doctoral studies in marine policy at the University of Delaware in the United States. Her 1986 bachelor's in hydrobiology is from the Metropolitan Autonomous University.
