What is the difference between a leader and manager? What is unique about being a leader in the context of sustainable development? How do you know when you are making a difference?
This module provides a practical introduction to leadership and project management in the context of sustainable development. The core content includes generic leadership and project management theory that can be applied in most contexts and cultures. LEAD has nearly 20 years’ experience of building and leading culturally diverse teams working on local, regional and global projects. This module draws on our experience of building trust in virtual teams and inspiring collaborative teamwork where opportunities to communicate face to face are rare.
INQUIRING, DISCOVERING, DOING AND SHARING
Participants begin by assessing their personal leadership skills, knowledge and personal awareness against LEAD’s specially developed leadership and management competencies. The design of the module gives participants responsibility for how they engage with the content, the presenters, and with each other. Opportunities for participants to share knowledge and experience with each other are built into the schedule. We use a range of creative learner centred training methodologies. These include: practical project design and development in teams, case studies including opportunities to meet and learn from key stakeholders face to face, and conversations with leaders and project managers from different sectors and countries. A constantly updated range of on-line learning resources including selected articles, podcasts, books and film, supports face to face learning.
