Biography
Vinesh Kumar Jairath who holds a Masters Degree in Economics and a LLB Degree joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1982.
He has held several important positions during these last 20 years both in the Central and State Governments, which include Director in the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India, Municipal Commissioner of Aurangabad and Kolhapur. He is interested in forestry-related issues, particularly afforestation and climate change. In addition to various projects in rural forestry development, Mr. Jairath has been active with a literacy project in the Wardha district. As Municipal Commissioner of Kolhapur, Mr. Jairath undertook a mega drinking water supply project for a population of 1 million people and related urban waste water and sewage disposal projects. The city which was prone to repeated outbreaks of water borne diseases including jaundice and cholera is now safe from such epidemics only on account of the successful completion of these projects.
Prior to taking charge of the post of MD, SICOM, Shri Jairath was Secretary to the Governor of Maharashtra, where he has been associated with social issues like AIDS awareness, Voluntary blood donation, Higher education issues especially University matters and balanced regional development.
