Biography

Gustavo BEUTTENMULLER, a geologist, works with the Environment Planning Department of São Paulo City. Responsible for environmental management issues and town planning, he helps to address environmental and social problems such as landslides and floods caused by irregular housing construction in low income areas. In 1993, he coordinated the creation of the 'São Paulo Geotechnical Map', a reference guide for land occupation in the City of São Paulo. He has also worked as a technical consultant in re-urbanization and sanitation projects.

G. Beuttenmuller is also an environmental educator and leader in projects for the University of São Paulo (USP), NGOs, ecological tourism agencies and a program in executive outdoors training. He teaches at the Brasil Institute for Environmental Education and is a member of the team developing an environmental protection area in the City of São Paulo. He completed an extension program in education at USP in 1997, and graduated in 1988 from the Geology Institute of São Paulo State University - USP. He started his career as an intern at the State Institute of Technological Research.
