For the first time in human history more people are living in cities than in rural areas. This move to urban environments coincides with unprecedented alterations to the natural environment by man. Cities around the world are already feeling the impacts of climate change and there is an urgent need for action.
How can cities adapt to this new phenomenon? What changes in the urban context are required to address the challenges posed by climate change? What lessons can be learned from South and North experiences?
The LEAD International Session will address these and other questions by bringing together leaders from around the world to explore and discuss the role of cities in tackling climate change. The International Session will be held in Mexico City, from 16-22 November 2008.
The LEAD International Session has been a core feature of LEAD’s “Leadership for Sustainable Development” Fellows Training programme for more than 15 years. It focuses on the global dimension of sustainability. The session explores the relationships between global interdependence, emerging challenges, and complex and systemic solutions. Graduates from our 11 national programmes, representing over 40 countries, come together at the International Session.
This site is the gateway to information, resources and discussion on the 2008 LEAD International Session on “Megacities and Climate Change”. Participants can also access the IS Forum and begin to prepare for their learning journey by getting to know their working group, reading up on the topics and sharing ideas with the other participants.
