LEAD Africa and LEAD International, in collaboration with the Shell Foundation, have come together to create the premier leadership development programme in Africa.

Our vision – to deliver an African- led training programme equipping a new generation of African leaders with the leadership skills, motivation and support networks necessary to achieve change and contribute to sustainable development in Africa. The training addresses some of Africa’s most pressing issues, from leadership and governance to climate change.

“The most critical challenge which is faced in Africa today is that of leadership. African countries making significant progress are not those endowed with natural resources but those governed by a leadership with resolve.”

Yerim Seck, Journalist, Jeune Afrique, LEAD Mentorship day, March 2010

The programme has been designed and delivered in Africa, by Africans, for Africans.

By 2014, up to 500 leaders from business, government, civil society, the media and academia will go through the programme annually. They will form a unique network of African leaders better able to tackle the complex challenges of sustainable development facing the continent.

Associates recruited for the programme benefit from LEAD Africa scholarships to enable them to join the programme, so awards can be made on merit and commitment rather than ability to pay.

Post training, they join a pan-African and global network of LEAD Fellows who continue to collaborate and harness the strength of the network to lead their organisations down a more sustainable path.

This is an ambitious programme that will have a significant impact in Africa. LEAD is seeking to bring in other partners to create an endowment to sustain the programme for the future.
