Mr. Anharudin is an anthropologist, working as a senior researcher at the Center for Transmigration Research and Development, The Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, Republic of Indonesia. As an official researcher in government research agency, he actively conduct many anthropological researches and socio-cultural studies especially on the impact of transmigration and land development towards the indigenous communities and their cultural lives.
During the transition era, particularly since the collapes of the authoritarian regime of New Order, he had done many researches on multi ethnic relationships and the causes of ethnical and religious conflicts, research on violence and discrimination against women, and research on various human rights violation in some areas of Indonesia. His post graduate thesis of anthropology (1986) is about the ownership disparity of agricultural means of production, basically land, that promoted shared poverty in peasant life of rural Java; and also about the agricultural modernization that causes land degradation as well as worse disparities of land ownership. In addition to his position as government researcher, he is also active in an NGO concerning to political and human right education. At the moment, he is a Deputy Director of Lembaga Penguatan Opini Publik (LPOP) based at Cibubur, Bogor West Java. In this organization he exerted his attention to political and human rights education and studies. |

Fankem was born in 1964 in Bandenkop, Western Province, Cameroon. In 1989 he enrolled at Yaoundé University, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (History and
Geography) where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Geography with Science of Education as an additional subject. The same year, he entered the National Higher Teacher’s Training College, Yaoundé. In 1991, he received a Master’s Degree in Education. Fankem taught in government schools in the North, West, Littoral, and Centre provinces of Cameroon from 1991 to 2002. From 2002, he was hired as a consultant in humanitarian law and civil protection, and joined a team of contributors to the “Cameroon civil protection reportâ€. This report is a document of the Cameroon Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, in collaboration with the United Nations for Development Program (UNDP) and the International Organisation for Civil Protection (IOCP). In 2004, he was recruited as a consultant for a company called Eromat 3I, where he was in charge of water matters in the rural areas. In 2006, he joined LEAD Afrique Francophone as associate member before joining the training programme of “Cohort 13’’. |

He has worked with WWF Indonesia Project on Kerinci Seblat National Park which covered 1.4 million hectare square areas in 4 four Provinces in Sumatra (Jambi, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, and South Sumatra) as communication and conservation promotion coordinator. He has also worked with WWF Indonesia Project on Gunung Leuser National Park that covered 1.7 million hectare square in 2 Provinces in Sumatra (North Sumatra and Special Provinces of Aceh) as communication and environmental education project leader. Then he collaborated with WALHI (Indonesia Environmental Forum) National Secretary for set-up communication strategic by using momentum of Indonesia reformation era.
Other worked with Japan Foundation Jakarta as NGO liaison coordinator for grant scheme to Strengthen civil society such as nature conservation, human right, and community art in East Timor (Timor Leste) and Irian Jaya. Aanchal KAPUR has, since May 1999 brought together a group of young people with backgrounds in sociology, medical anthropology, development and gender studies, political science, law and art design to set up KRITI: a development praxis and communication team, based in New Delhi. As team leader, she works with the other members in doing research, training, documentation and designing of development resources for NGOs, government and international organisations.
The team works with a gender perspective on a wide-range of development issues, such as health, education, environment, human rights, micro-credit, violence against women, etc. It offers the KRITI Information Place where people and organisations can access audio-visual and print material on a range of development issues. The team brings out a dossier of newsclips from seven English national dailies that track and analyse media coverage on development processes. This is open for subscription. A diary on people's movements is also brought out every year by the KRITI team and they also provide information and media support to people's initiatives and campaigns. A film club that screens documentaries and slide shows is organised every third saturday of the month at the KRITI workplace in New Delhi. Finally, the team reuses and recycles paper resources and provides this option to other organisations with the purpose of making eco-friendly work environments. The communication material developed by the team includes posters, postcards, bookmarks, booklets, reports and is available on request. Till April 1999, she was coordinating an International Labour Office project in India entitled 'Training and Information Dissemination on Women Workers' Rights' between June-April 1999. Her work involved coordinating and conducting research and producing an information package on women workers rights in India. In the past, she has been involved in research, training and evaluation of projects on natural resource management, common property resource management, solid waste management, education, and gender and environment. She has also coordinated a study of environmental NGOs working towards the empowerment of women throughout India. A. Kapur has a post-graduate degree in Political Science from JNU and another Master's in Development Studies from LSE with a specialization in Social policy and planning. |

Abba Gana SHETTIMA was born in the Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria in 1962. Since 1986, he has worked as a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri and is now a Senior Lecturer in Rural Sociology with responsibilities for teaching both undergradute and Graduate students.
His research interest includes Gender and the Environment, Resource Conflict in semi-arid regions, Land tenure issues and the application of participatory methods and tools in rural research and development work. He has also done research and consultancy work on particatory research and training for the British Department of International Development(DFID) in Nigeria. He has conducted research for the Macarthur Foundation Fund Leadership Development, the Social Science Council of Nigeria and so on. He has attended several conferences, training workshops and seminars both nationally and internationally. He attended the Gender Institute organized and funded by the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA)in Dakar-Senegal in 1995, an International Workshop on Reproductive Health, Rights and Womens Empowerment in Kerala India in 1996(funded by the Macarthur Foundation, Chicago) and the United Nations University International Leadership Academy(UNUILA)in 1998. At both national and international Conferences, he has presented several academic papers. He has published several papers in both national and International Journals including AFRICA DEVELOPMENT and THE JOURNAL OF TROPICL PEADETRICS. He was educated at the Government Secondary School, Nguru where he obtained the West African School Certificate (First Division) in 1980. He then proceeded to the University of Maiduguri in 1981 and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Anthroplogy (First Class Honours). Mr.Shettima also attended Nigerias Premier University, the University of Ibadan, and obtained a Masters Degree in Agricultural Extension Services in 1988. ABDI SURYANINGATI (Yenni) is Vice Director for Organizational Development and International Relations of YAPPIKA, an NGO pursuing democratic development and strengthening of civil society through supporting community based socio economic development initiatives and conducting provincial/national advocacy on democracy, that includes issues such as: human rights, governance, conflict management and pluralism. In doing this Yappika collaborates with provincial and national NGO Fora. She is responsible for Yappika's internal governance, public relation, research and publications, resource mobilizations, as well as, providing supports to increase Yappika's partners institutional capacity and expanding Yappika's international relations/networks. Aside of these tasks she often act as consultant for program development and institutional building for not-for-profit organizations and networks, and facilitators for strategic planning, program and financial management, and conflict management workshops for various NGOs. She was involved in producing a manual on integrating gender and environmental perspectives into program design to be used by Yappika partners and other NGO networks and is writing a book 'learning from experience: conducting research in conflict areas'. She is also an editor for a book, namely 'Assessing the Health of Civil Society: a Guide for Self-Assessment' that was inspired by the work of CIVICUS and Richard Holloway on the Civil Society Index. Through her work with the Civil Society Index, she is becoming an expert trainer and facilitator to use the perception-based Index to assess the 'health of civil society. At the national level, she was involved in various NGO coalitions, i.e: coalition on Foundation Bill, constitution reform, and transitional justice. Aside of that, her organization is producing 'a manual on criteria and principles of democratic local governance - tool for participatory assessment on local government performance to execute democracy' to be used by community organizations, NGOs and other interests groups in local areas. Through her work, she hopes to be able to increase local NGOs capacity in delivering services to marginalized communities and in participating in provincial/national policy dialogues. Her education background is in engineering but her work and interests are geared towards social movement.

Abdoulaye SAKHO followed a TV/ computer training program and obtained a master’s degree in Telecom Router (option: Cisco) from SUP Info, a centre for higher education in Dakar. This, after completing his training as a bachelor at a telecommunications training institute. Then he made his début in 2004 with a company (AVF Technology) as a computer-system administrator, before joining the national company, SONATEL, the same year as a network operator. He worked for several other businesses before finally returning to SONATEL ASGP as a hotline supervisor : MSIC Group, CONFEPAO, Alliance Panafricaniste and UNESCO.

Mr. Changezi works as an independent consultant. He formerly headed the Consumer Mobilization Unit at the Network for Consumer Protection, Islamabad. Earlier he worked with the Quetta Katchi Abadis Environmental Management Program (QKAEMP) as Team Leader of one of its six implementing partners, the Society for Environmental Awareness. QKAEMP is a low cost, community based, cost sharing project, designed to improve environmental sanitation conditions in Quetta's slums through active community participation. Earlier Mr Changezi worked as Program Coordinator for the Drug Demand Reduction Project Balochistan, which was jointly funded by Oxfam and the European Union. He started his career as Trainer, Human Resource Development with the Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP), Quetta, where he worked on staff training and organization development. He has organized and conducted numerous training workshops for different NGOs in areas such as interpersonal communication, motivation, teamwork and assertiveness, and Logical Framework Analysis. He has also written articles for local newspapers and journals. Two of his articles on nuclear testing and its adverse effects on the masses have been translated into Japanese. Mr Changezi has a first class Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Balochistan.

Mr. Buzdar holds Masters degree in Botany from the University of Balochistan and another Masters degree in Human Settlements Development with a specialization in rural and regional development planning from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. Currently, Mr. Buzdar is leading IMPACT Consulting Services and working as a consultant with ADB, JICA and other international organizations in the social development sector. Prior to this, he worked with OXFAM GB as a Program Manager for Sustainable Livelihoods and Disaster Risk Reduction Section. He also worked with the European Commission's Program Coordination Office for Rural Social Development Program (RSDP) as the Deputy Program Coordinator in Islamabad. His major responsibility included fund management and capacity building of the national NGOs of Pakistan involved in the socioeconomic development of the rural and semi urban communities in the health and education sectors. Mr. Buzdar is interested in social development, sustainable livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, organizational development, monitoring and evaluation, information systems development and issues related to sustainable development and environment. He has organized a number of workshops and participated in training regarding rural appraisal, monitoring and evaluation, and institutional development.

The main areas of involvement include providing substantive inputs to the Common Country Assessments (CCA), UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) and UNDP Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP) and UN Reforms. During nine years of association with UNDP-Pakistan, networked with government, UN agencies and non-government partners. Responsible for providing strategic advice to the UNDP's Senior Management to establish UNDP’s niche on global and local environmental issues. As the Programme Officer (Environment and Energy) have extensive experience of: environment project portfolio development; reporting; monitoring and evaluation; internal and external coordination; analytical studies; interaction with the key partners in government, private sector, civil society, UN agencies and funding agencies; resource mobilisation from global funds (such as Global Environment Facility and Montreal Protocol) and regional/local sources; and, extending advisory support to the external partners. Prior to joining UNDP, Mr. Rafiq was working as a consultant with the National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK). Mr. Rafiq has been involved in the planning and designing of the Dera Ghazi Khan Integrated Drainage and Irrigation Project, the Drainage Sector Environmental Asessment Study, the National Drainage Program and the Muzaffargarh Canal Command Project. Dr. Abey George has been working in the field of development and environmental conservation for the past 16 years. During this period, he has been involved in different capacities with the government, non-governmental organizations, environmental movements, research institutes and so on. He is currently working as Assistant Professor with KILA ( Kerala Institute of Local Administration), Government of Kerala, India which imparts training to local governments in the state of Kerala and other parts of India and other SAARC countries. At KILA, he coordinates training programmes related to natural resource management, implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), environmental and conservation issues , climate change adaptation issues and use of the Right to Information Act and good governance accountability . He has been awarded the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship in 2008 to work on climate change and local governance.
Following his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi, he was actively involved with the Save Narmada Movement (Narmada Bachao Andolan), an involvement which took him to working on issues of Development and Displacement at the Unit for Rural Studies, at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. Subsequently, he worked as the Coordinator of the Oceanic Circles Research Group at Sewagram Ashram,(established by Mahatma Gandhi), at Wardha in Maharashtra. Subsequently, he has been engaged in research and consultancy work with institutions and forums such as the World Commission on Dams (WCD) with whom he conducted a study to assess the feasibility of micro hydel options for electricity generation in the state of Kerala; the Kerala Forest Research Institute atPeechi in Kerala, where he was part of a project coordinated and funded by the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the work being aimed at evolving a set of criteria and indicators for assessing Sustainable Natural Resource Management which were subsequently field tested; the Kerala Research Programme on Local Level Development at the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum (CDS) on a project that looked into natural resource use and industrial development in Kerala, with the CDS, he also coordinated a project which aimed to explore pesticide use patterns by small and medium farmers in the tribal tract of Attappady in Kerala. Later he headed the training and human resourcedevelopment division of the internationally assisted watershed development project aimed at the eco-restoration of an extremely degraded tribal area (Attappady in the state of Kerala). He is also co-ordinating one of the Decentralised Resource Centres (DRCs) of Lead India, that works on the theme of Decentralisation and Natural Resource Management. Abhay Vaidya is Assistant Editor (Chief of Bureau) at Times of India, Pune where he leads a team of city reporters and outstation correspondents. He began his journalistic career in 1987 and since then has reported extensively on political and non-political developments in western Maharashtra. In 1991, he was awarded the Rotary Foundation Journalism Scholarship under which he went to the United States for a graduate study program. He was the Times of India's Washington Correspondent during 1993-94. Abhay's current priorities are to report on a range of urban developmental issues such as traffic and transportation, urban growth, water supply and urban waste disposal. Abhay has also worked in television and has produced a series of short television reports for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) on the problems of refugees in South Asia.

In this capacity he managed the sales, software, engineering and accounts departments. Mr. Qaisrani has also been an Analyst/Programmer at ICI Pakistan Limited, where he worked on programming, systems analysis, implementation and supervision of data control. He has also attended many courses dealing with communications, writing, negotiating skills, effective management and computer training.
