Ayoteju Ayorinde OGUN
Dr. Ayoteju Ayorinde OGUN is a Veterinary Doctor. She has recently added Urban Health to her area of specialization and was recently involved in a research on the role of vaccine derived polioviruses in the eradication of polio – using the Nigerian experience as a case study, and also attended the 7th International Conference on Urban Health (ICUH) held in Vancouver, Canada in 2008.

Mrs. OGUN graduated as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She also had her Master of Public Health (Environmental Health) degree from the same University. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree – PhD Ecotoxicology and Pollution Management) at the University of Lagos. She was once an intern with the Federal Ministry of Environment/FEPA, Lagos, Nigeria and has published several articles in learned journals. Mrs. Ogun is a member of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN)

Ayyaz Gul Kiani
Ayyaz Gul Kiani is the General Manger at LEAD Pakistan, looking after the Core Services Department which comprises training, research and communication units. He has vast experience of working with NGOs in Pakistan. He has a master's degree in public health with focus on development countries’. He also has formal training and hands on experience of business and social sector management. Mr. Kiani has worked extensively with federal and provincial governments and has undertaken consultancy and training assignments in Pakistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Turkey, India and Uganda. He has experience working with the WHO, DfID, UNDP, CWS, USAID and Universities of Amsterdam, Liverpool, Punjab and Balochistan. He represented Pakistan in the 58th Health Assembly of the WHO in Geneva in 1998.

He is a well known campaigner for consumer rights and has contributed effectively in many legislations and public policies. He had the privilege to work for Supreme Court of Pakistan as amicus curie in a land mark case related to policy and practice of the pharmaceutical sector in Pakistan. He has vast experience of working with the media in Pakistan and abroad. Mr. Kiani has also ccontributed as teaching faculty in University of Amsterdam’s international courses and Centre for Health Management Sciences, Lahore, He has written extensively in professional journals and media and has the distinction of writing an editorial in the British Medical Journal. He has been editor for seven years of the most widely circulated public health magazine in Pakistan. He has also edited the first of its kind book on public health in Potohari language.

Azhar Mansur KHAN
Prof. Dr. Azhar. M. Khan has a Ph.D. in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA. He also has a Masters in Cost Benefit/Project Management Economics from the same university. He has also obtained diplomas in Project Management, Environmental Management and fundraising/philanthropy. Currently, he is working as the National Program Manager of National Environmental Action Plan-Support Program, a UN funded environment program. He is also a visiting faculty at National University of Sciences and Technology NUST, Center for Advancement of Science and Engineering (CASE) and several other national level institutions. He is the head of the Cost-Benefit Analysis Cell and, with his ability to integrate his knowledge of engineering and economics, he has gained expertise in project evaluation, economic feasibility studies and cost-benefit analysis. He is also the coordinator for Environmental Management Short Courses and Workshops Program. He is an international expert of project management for both social sector as well as infrastructure projets. He has published articles dealing with economics and aerospace/mechanical engineering, environment, sustainable rural development, project management and technology management. He is an active researcher and has recently conducted international workshops on Project Management, Environmental Management, Project Proposal Development and Hospital Management.Dr.Azhar has been working on means of linking the military with issues of sustainable development and environment protection. He has conceived a model in this regard and hopes that LEAD training will help him test the practical impacts of this concept. Dr Khan has applied for release from the military to be actively involved in the social sector research and work. He writes in the Newspapers and Sustainable Development International Magazine. Mr B G Verghese, Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research in New Delhi, is a leading journalist and has worked with major National dailies such as Indian Express, The Hindustan times and Times of India. Mr Verghese is the recipient of prestigious awards such as the Magsaysay Award for Journalism, a Fellow of the Centre for Policy Research, and has been a member of international commissions on the environment and media. He was educated at Delhi University and at Trinity College, Cambridge University.

Mr Menon is a Commerce graduate with a post graduation in Marketing and Sales Management. He worked with NDDB [ National Dairy Development Board ] for twelve years in various capacities. During this time, he had the opportunity of travelling in rural areas throughout the country. That was when the importance of ecology and the consequences of the callous abuse of the environment struck him. From active marketing he deviated to sales coordination, logistics, press publicity and advertising during his final years with the National Dairy Development Board.

He took up another assignment with P S Bedi group of companies, a reputed freight forwarding and clearing agent, export house and GSA for Modiluft Airlines apart from other lines of business.He held a dual post here for four years, as the Executive Assistant to two of the Directors and also as Manager of one of their group companies called Shotam, which provided support services to the power sector.

All this while his interest in environment and ecology was kept alive and it saddened him that he was unable to put his genuine concern into meaningful action.

He joined Centre for Research on Environment, Ecology and Development ( CREED ) LEAD INDIA in April 97 as Manager of Finance, Personnel & Administration. Since then he has had the opportunity to interact with others who shared the same concern as he. He hopes to be more deeply involved in the LEAD Program and play a more meaningful role in preserving the heritage.

Apart from his love for animals - all creatures great and small, he also loves good books, good music and good food.

Baatr KITINOV is the Head of Department of World History at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, a member of the special expert's groups in State Duma (Russian Parliament) and Ministry of Justice of Russia. Baatr Kitinov has a master's degree of Science (History) from Kalmyk State University and a Ph.D. in history of religion from the Institute of Asian and African States of Moscow State University. Babajide Olumuyiwa Olufemi
Mr. Babajide Olumuyiwa OLUFEMI is an Aviation Sales Superintendent (East) with CONOIL Plc, Nigeria specifically in charge of allocation of aviation fuel to airlines in all the airfields in the eastern part of Nigeria. Before joining CONOIL Plc, he had worked with Smark Mark Ltd, Lagos, Nigeria, Wonder Foods Nigeria Ltd, SmithKline Beecham Nig. Plc, and Sterling Health Nigeria Plc. His work experience in these establishments cover Pharmaceuticals, Food & Beverages, Cosmetics, Personal Care Products and Oil and Gas sectors.

Mr. Olufemi obtained his BSc (Hons) In Political Science from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He also obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria.

Babatunde Oladimeji OLOKO
Babatunde Oloko is the founder- principal partner of Livingstone Consultants (a consulting engineering, environmental and project management firm), with the responsibility for project management, engineering studies and design and construction supervision of wide variety of schemes in Nigeria.

Babatunde is a registered professional Civil Engineer in Nigeria with over 15 years consulting experience. He graduated from the University of Lagos with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a master's degree in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from the same university. He also holds a diploma in entrepreneurship from FATE School of Entrepreneurship

He worked as an Associate/Senior Engineer with ADEOYE FOWORA & PARTNERS (Chartered Civil/Structural Engineering Firm), he worked at CATECH Consultants and Dar Al-Handasah Consultants as Assistant project manager and project engineer respectively. He has also been an independent consultant to several firms, contractors, property developers, etc. As a seasoned consulting Engineer, he has impacted his environment through numerous development projects executed some of which he played a significant role leading a multi-disciplinary team on various engineering and developmental projects. Notable projects includes:

- Infrastructure development fund project (World Bank Assisted programme) for Gongola (now Adamawa & Taraba), Borno and Edo States in Nigeria

He is an active member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Association of Consulting Engineers, Nigeria (ACEN). He has served on professional committees, made seminar presentations, delivered lectures at Nigerian Society of Engineers organized workshops and published papers. He is a holder of Marquis Award for who is who in Science and Engineering, 2004 (8th Edition)

He is particularly interested in issues of leadership, entrepreneurship (private sector participation especially in the Infrastructure development), globalization and Sustainable development. He has participated in several international and national seminars and conferences on Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Engineering profession and sustainable development.

He is a member/technical adviser of Imoru Community Development Association (ICDA) and a participant at the regional consultation for West African civil society organized by Commission for Africa and LEAD International in 2004 at Dakar, Senegal. Other appointments include consultant member Lagos State Inter-ministerial committee on Oshodi Interchange Improvement Project(2000).

Babatunde is happily married and have a daughter. He enjoys reading, traveling, adventure and making new friends.

Baiquni MUHAMMAD
Muhammad BAIQUNI is a lecturer in geography at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. He also deputy director of the Center for Tourism Studies (CTS) and a researcher Center for Asia and Pacific Studies (CAPS).

Before joining as lecturer and researcher at Gadjah Mada University in 1996, he was working in NGOs i.e. Institute for Rural Technology Development/LPTP Solo, ARECOP/Yayasan Dian Desa, Yayasan IDEAS, URBAN Forum, Pawarta. He has experience in strategic management of public organization, PRA-participatory Rural Appraisal, RRDP-rural regional development planning, appropriate technology, resource and environmental management.

Mr Baiquni is pursuing his doctoral degree of geography in sandwich program between Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia and Utrecht University, The Netherlands.

Bala Raju Nikku
Bala Raju Nikku was born in 1970, in Budithi village, Srikakulam District in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Born in an agriculture based family gave a first hand experience of rural life and society. He had to leave the village in pursuit of higher studies that offered insights in to the urban realities.

He graduated in Master of Arts in Social Work from Nagarjuna University in 1994 and secured University fifth rank. He pursued further higher education and obtained a Postgraduate Degree in Planning with specialization on Regional Planning from CEPT University, Ahmedabad in 1999. In the year 2006 he has been awarded PhD in Social Sciences from the Wageningen University based in the Netherlands. The title of the dissertation is The Politics of Policy: Participatory Irrigation Management in Andhra Pradesh and the work has been accepted for a publication as a book by the Orient Longman publications.

He has attended Sixth International Summer School on Management of Common Property Resources organized by Centre for Management in Agriculture, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in July 2000 and Eighth International Training Program in Environment Education (Dec 1996 -July 1997) organized by Centre for Environment Education, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) Government of India.

Dr. Nikku worked with various research, governmental, non-governmental and donor agencies in India since 1994 and from 2002 in Nepal. He worked with Tamil Nadu Resource Team based in Chennai during 1994-95. During 1995-96 worked as a sociologist with Wildlife Institute of India and during 1999-2000 worked with Gujarat Institute of Development Research as a Project Associate.

Dr. Nikku conducted research and consultancy studies with Oxfam (GB), District Water Agency, Catholic Relief Service (CRS) based in Andhra Pradesh and with the Save the Children Sweden regional program office based in Kathmandu.

He was instrumental in initiating Masters Program in Social Work (MSW) at St.Xavier’s college of Social work and Bachelors in Social Work program (BSW) at Kadambari Memorial College of Science and Management affiliated to Purbanchal University. He is also serving as a member of subject committee of Social work formed by Purbanchal University. Currently, Dr. Nikku heads the Department of Social Work at Kadambari Memorial College of Science and Management.

In addition Dr. Nikku serve as the Executive Director for SUTRA Centre for Development Education and Research, a not for profit organisation based in Katmandu, Nepal. He teaches core courses of social work and current research interests include institutions, policy process, environment and international social work. Dr. Nikku has attended and read research papers in several national and international workshops and seminars since 1994.

Bamidele Ayoade AJAKAIYE (1947 - 2010)
Bamidele Ayoade Ajakalye, head of the Lagos Zonal Office for the Federal Environmental Protection Agency in Lagos, Nigeria, has been a lecturer in mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic, in Ibadan, Nigeria, and senior lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, in lle lfe, Nigeria. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with honors from Ahmadu Bello University, in Zaria, Nigeria, a master's degree in thermal power engineering from Imperial College, University of London, U.K. and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Technology, Loughborough, U.K. He was also the recipient of a UNESCO fellowship from the Georgia Institute of Technology, in the United States. In addition to numerous awards and distinctions, Dr. Ajakalye has been a member of various professional organizations, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the International Solar Energy Society. He has completed extensive research in thermofluids and alternative energy technology, and has attended numerous conferences and workshops all over the world on issues of ozone protection, waste management, rural development and environmental technology. The author of more than a dozen published articles, as well as various manuscripts and reports, he has participated in a wide range of projects that focus on the use of wood stoves in rural Nigeria, and the use of solar energy for refrigeration and air conditioning. He is most interested in technology, sustainable development and environmental education. As a LEAD Associate, he looks forward to communicating through printed and electronic resources with other members of the group. Dr. Ajakalye enjoys travelling, world politics and squash.

Bamidele DUROJAIYE
Bamidele Olufisan Durojaiye received a bachelor's degree in forestry, a master's degree from the University of Arizona in the United States and a doctorate from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, both in agricultural economics. He currently works as a Professor in agricultural economics at Olabisi Onabanjo University (formerly Ogun State University), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria. Prior to this position, he was a consultant with Nardes (NIG.) Ltd. in Nigeria and a national youth corp service member in the Forestry Division of the Plateau State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Professor Durojaiye is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Association of Agricultural Economists and the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists. He has attended numerous national and international conferences and has more than 50 publications to his credit, such as 'Estimating Potential Monetary Benefits from Quality Improvement of a Recreation Centre: The Case of Agodi Gardens, Ibadan, Nigeria', which appeared in the Nigerian Journal of Forestry in 1983, 'A Theoretical Analysis of Supply Response in a Technologically Stagnant Agriculture: The Nigerian Case', published in the Nigerian Agricultural Journal in 1987, 'The Monetary Value of Recreational Facilities in a Developing Economy: A Case Study of Three Centers in Nigeria', published in Natural Resources Journal in 1988, 'Multiobjective Farm Planning for Small-scale Farmers in Ogun State, Nigeria', which appeared in the book entitled 'Issues in African Rural Development', published by Winrock International in 1991, and 'The Value of Education in Small-scale Agriculture: Some Evidence from Ogun State, Nigeria', published in Oxford Agrarian Studies in 1992. Bamikole William JIMBA
Bamikole Williams Jimba is a senior research fellow in health physics and radiation biophysics at the Center for Energy Research and Training at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physics. He also earned master's and doctoral degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of Washington and Texas A&M University, respectively, both located in the United States. A member of the Nigerian Institute of Physics, the Nigerian Institute of Management and the Nigerian Association of Medical Physics, Dr. Jimba has attended several national and international conferences on nuclear waste management and radiation. He is the author of almost a dozen journal articles, including 'Major and Trace Elements in Some Nigerian Food Grains', 'Radiation Waste Management Situation in Nigeria' and 'Elemental Analysis of Air Pollutants from Kerosine Combustion'. Dr. Jimba's main areas of interest are in energy, radiation, and chemical pollution, and through LEAD he hopes to collaborate with fellow Associates in order to broaden his expertise across other disciplines.

Banaou DJIBO
Djibo BANAOU, an agronomist specializing in agrarian systems and rural development works as senior expert at FAO Niger since December 2011. He has worked as Monitoring and Evaluation Head of Department at Cellule Crises Alimentaires (CCA) from December 2007 to December 2011 and was a Food Security National Consultant at the Food Crises Control Unit (CCA)Niger Prime Minister Office. In 2007 he was agricultural strategically responsible in Niger Agricultural Minister.
In 2005 2006, he has worked full time for the reinforcement and improvement of the activities of the Food Crises Control Unit (CCA).
Specifically, he is responsible for support to CCA in collaboration with the office of the UNDP within the framework of the setting of the Project "Support to the Management of the Post Crisis phase to the sustainable development in Niger"
Also, he has coordinated Lillato communities Development project, from January to December 2006. At 2003 2004 he was an International NGO ‘Aide et Action’ Regional Coordinator Dosso Region in Niger.
Djibo had previously held a senior executive position in the Ministry of Agricultural Development..
For the NGO Care International, he was in charge of implementing strategies and technical matters in relation to livelihoods and security; from 1999 to 2001.
In his region, Djibo had coordinated agricultural activities and implemented development projects in areas as diverse as agro-meteorological issues, foodstuffs, the environment, and health and nutrition. He had also worked on regional and rural conflicts in Tahoua, Niger. He was the permanent secretary to the committee organizing World Food Day and the National Tree Celebration, and had edited the newspaper “Bulletin d'information pour la diffusion des technologies appropriées en milieu rural”. And currently he is an adviser in various courses on the MARP agricultural systems.Djibo is Secretary General of ANASEC Niger Asociation and he is research and action Responsible for LEAD Niger Association too.

Bandu Sane Sampatro
Bandu Sane is the Director of KHOJ which works in the Melghat region of Maharashtra. Bandu has a Bachelors in Law from Punjabrao Deshmukh College of Law, Amravati. He also has a certificate in Social welfare administration from TISS, Mumbai and a Masters in Public Administration from Nagpur University, Nagpur.

Bandu has previously worked wityh YUVA as their youth coordinator till 1996 and there after set up KHOJ. He has been instrumental in leading the demand of providing quality education to the children in the region as the organization believes that only if children get right education, they will be able to plan for their future.

Baodong XIE
(FROM MAY 2000 XIE CHANGED HIS JOB TO OGILVY PUBLIC RELATIONS WORLDWIDE--BEIJING)XIE Baodong is the deputy director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Publicity of the China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF), a newly established NGO raising funding and financial support for various environmental activities. From 1993 to 1994 he worked for the Foreign Affairs Office of the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), and was able to attend a number of international conferences in Bangladesh, France, Germany, Japan and Thailand. Subsequently, he served as an environmental journalist for the ”China Environment News,” where he wrote more than 100 environmental reports and opinions, some of which were awarded a national prize. He has also participated in coordination of the ”Biodiversity Convention.” In the future he hopes to concentrate and encourage cooperation between CEPF and other NGOs around the world. He has a Master of Law from the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (1990).

Ms. Neve holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Translation from the University of Ottawa.

Basit Khan
Basit has 20 years of experience in the Oil & Gas, Conservation and Development sectors dealing with multi-disciplinary issues related to Health Safety & Environment (HSE), corporate responsibility, conservation, and rural development. He has worked in India, Pakistan and United Kingdom with various Oil & Gas operators namely Premier Oil, Shell, KUFPEC and MOL. Apart from international Oil & Gas operating experience, he has managed a portfolio of consulting projects on the UK Continental Shelf related to permitting and consents, risk assessment, EMS audits, Pre-FEED/FEED environmental reviews, and decommissioning planning.
He has been a member of a wide variety of professional affiliations – including Fellow, Leadership for Environment & Development (LEAD) and Member of International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA).

Mr Khan is a graduate Civil Engineer with Masters in Environmental Engineering from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London. He also holds a Specialist NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management. Mr. Khan presently works for a British environmental consultancy, Metoc plc, based in Hampshire, as an Associate Director responsible for the Oil & Gas business.

Bassam Mohammad SHALAN
Bassam Mohammad Ahmad SHALAN is the project leader for the Palestinian Environmental Authority (PENA) Hebron. Prior to his position at PENA, he conducted research in the environmental unit of the Applied Research Institute-Jerusalem. He was involved in preparing reports on energy consumption and energy generation. Bayu LUDVIANTO
Bayu LUDVIANTO is a lecturer in Bioconservation, Marine Biology and Biostatistics at the University of Bengkulu, Sumatera Indonesia. He has a PhD in Marine Biology from james Cook University of North Queensland, Australia. During the period of 1999 to end of 2001 he was the Program Coordinator of the Small Research Grants-Integrated Conservation and Development Project (SRG-ICDP) at Kerinci Seblat National Park, Sumatera. The project was funded by the World Bank and it aimed to support biodiversity research conducted by more than 130 local researchers (from NGO's and academia) at the provinces of Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatera and West Sumatera. As a Program Coordinator, Bayu coordinated 49 groups of researcher and monitored the progress of those research during the two years period. During the period of 2000 to late 2002 his interest was on applying Mathis Wackernagel's concepts of Ecological Footprints for local and national issues like forest encroachments, natural resources depletion, and urban waste management. Witnessing the difficulties to promote environmentally sound practices by companies, and big businesses, Bayu took the liberty to make a 'turn' in his life and become a businessman (by involving himself on an International Network Marketing Business). He is hoping that this business will open a window for Bayu to 'see' the environment issues from the real businessman point of view (and not from the employee point of view). This way, he hopes he can promote a better approaches to make environmentally practices as a 'talk of the town' among business communities. In the beginning of 2005 he and few friends establish an NGO called Pronasa in Yogyakarta. His position is as Education Director. Pronasa is one of training centre in Yogyakarta.

Bayuni Shantiko (Bayuni) is a part-time researcher for Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan - host organization of LEAD Indonesia. His main duty is to undertake research and collect materials from company clients related to sustainable business; produce review, analysis and recommendation for YPB’s project with clients. He is also engaged with YPB’s Developing Sustainable Business Program – a program in promoting sustainable development for business community – as part of team of trainer. He earned his Masters degree from Institute of
Social Studies, Den Haag, Netherland in 2006, majoring in Rural Livelihood and Global Change, and his Bachelors degree from University of Indonesia (2001) Faculty of Economics. His previous work experience was with BirdLife Indonesia as socio-economist for Tanimbar Land Use Planning Project with responsibility to review and analyze socio-economic information of rural Tanimbar to develop integrated land use planning for Tanimbar Islands, monitor the project and other related activities. He was also involved as Natural Resource Economist of Greenomics Indonesia (2001-2002) where he analyze and review forest policy in Indonesia and undertake forest valuation and policy recommendation

Beatríz BUGEDA BERNAL
Ms. Bugeda earned her law degree at Harvard University in the United States. She is the Head of the Liaison Office of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Prior to her current position, she served in the Foreign Relation Ministry of the Mexican Government as an environmental legal advisor. Her published materials include 'Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo: Un Conflicto Norte-Sur', an overview of the North-South conflict as it relates to environment and development. Ms. Bugeda is interested in the practice of law as it relates to sustainable development, trade and environmental issues.

BEATRIZ CARDENAS GONZALEZ

Beatriz CARDENAS GONZALEZ is Director of Research on Air Pollution Monitoring and Characterization of the National Environmental Research and Training (CENICA) in Mexico. She leads a group of 15 people, among technicians and junior researchers. She is responsible for planning, developing, oversees and publishing research projects on air pollution monitoring and characterization since November 2001. Before joining to CENICA, she was a visiting professor at the Chemical Engineering Area of the Metropolitan Autonomous University, Iztapalapa Campus in Mexico City. As visiting professor she was responsible for teaching bachelor and graduate courses. In the research arena, she conduced research studies focused on materials identification and characterization as well as designing and operation of pilots scale studies. She also participated either as thesis director or advisor of approximately 10 undergraduate and 4 graduate students and was part of the team of the University Environmental Program. Beatriz is a biochemical engineer and holds a master and PhD degrees in Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. Her present interest is on the applied research on air pollution to generate information both to design and implement programs and policies to improve the air quality in urban and rural areas.
