She has been head of the land use planning department in the same institute and has conducted research on restoration of degraded agricultural areas, and the impact of human settlements on the natural environment.

Ari DARMASTUTI has been the chairperson for the Women's Study Center at the University of Lampung from 1995 to 2001, which has multidisciplinary activities including research, lectures, courses and community service. At present she is the Executive Director of the Center for Governmental and Political Ethic Studies at Lampung Province, Indonesia. She also lectures at the University on comparative politics, political methodology and Indonesia's political party and election systems. Her main areas of interest are women's studies, politics and sustainable development. She has a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Gajah Mada, Indonesia. She took her master's degree in political science in the United States at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
She has been actively involved in the process of democratization in Indonesia by coordinating independent election monitoring body in North Lampung, giving monitoring training for university students and NGOs involved, giving voters education through trainings and radio talk shows, presenting papers in local legislative trainings, writing articles in the area of politics in local medias, etc. Have attended courses in the field of women, women and human rights, women and environment both in national and international level. Present papers in the field of women, women and environment, women and politics, and other political topics (especially political parties, election, and community participation in the democratization process in Indonesia, especially in Lampung Province). Have also joined an NGO network for government and political transparencies in Lampung Province. She is very interested in conducting research in the field of women, environment, and politics and have been producing numerous research reports in the field both through collaborative and individual works. The latest was about women human resource profile in coastal and small island areas in Lampung. Ari Moch Arif is also known as Ari Muhammad. After graduating from the Faculty of Law at the University Catholic Parahyangan in 1995 he entered an environmental organization in Jakarta, ICEL - Indonesian Center for Environmental Law for four years. His outstanding capacities seem to have been recognized when he was appointed of Head of Advocacy Case and Alternative Dispute Resolution, after four years.
Great experiences in his career with ICEL followed when he joined with the Environmental Law Alliance World Wide - ELAW meeting in Sydney Australia. To increase his capacity in environmental public law, he was involved in Environmental Law Compliance Training in Sydney and Adelaide, Australia in 1999. In early 2000, he resigned and moved to Clean Air Project/CAP – Swisscontact Foundation as a Legal Policy Analyst. Two years later, his institution appointed him as a Program Officer for Policy Reform and Dialogue. In this position, he gained a scholarship for a masters program to study Economic Law at the Faculty of Law - Indonesian University. His thesis was Indonesia Business Law Reform and Harmonization in WTO Agreement for Agriculture Sector, in 2003. Many articles on urban air pollution in KOMPAS and other media have been published by him. Several civil society organization trusted him to coordinate Clean Air Coalition for legislation making process on Clean Air Act in Jakarta Province. At the same time, he was also giving assistance to the Local Environmental Agency (BPLHD). New Delhi is place successfully to mitigate significantly air pollution, for this reason, in 2004 he went to Delhi and Agra, India for learning from government, civil society and private sector including automotive industry. In 2004, After he and his colleges succeeded to influence transportation agency and local parliament (DPRD) for developing independence institution (Dewan Transportasi Kota/DTK) to improve public transports management in Jakarta Province, his institution offered by Transportation Agency for facilitating public engagement and facilitator of institutional mechanism developed. in August 2006, he left CAP-Swisscontact and now works on the Climate and Energy Program of WWF Indonesia as National Coordinator on UNFCCC Implementation. Government and civil society strengthening capacity is immediate concerning. Conferences of Parties (CoP) XII in Nairobi, Kenya was his first time in International negotiation process (to support his job, in 2007 he come in Asia Facilitator Workshop and Conference in Malaysia to increase his capacity in Negotiation and facilitation skills). Arif Pervaiz has served as the City Director of the Clinton Climate Initiative where the main function was to help foster and support development of energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects. As a Country Manager for WaterAid Pakistan, in 2006-7, he established the country office, set-up financial and monitoring systems, developed country strategy and programme, networked with donors, relevant stakeholders and partner organisations, oversaw capacity building of partner organisations. In 2004-05, Mr. Pervaiz as Senior Coordinator Policy at IUCN initiated and guided policy and advocacy work on water, air quality management, international environmental agreements, and trade and environment. He took lead in establishing programme on air quality management in IUCN. As Assistant Programme Coordinator, Ecosystem and Livelihood Group, IUCN Regional Office, Bangkok in 2004 he facilitated application of IUCN’s programme planning and assessment systems. He ensured promotion of quality assurance in project development and devised a project portfolio tracking system.
In May 2002, Mr. Pervaiz completed a Masters in Environmental Management from the National University of Singapore and another Masters in Management of Non-Governmental Organisations, from London School of Economics in 1997. She is currently undertaking her PhD in Natural Resource Governance form Wageningen University, Rural Development Sociology Group, the Netherlands. She currently holds the position of Programme Coordinator Pakistan in Intercooperation Pakistan in a joint capacity with her Swiss counterpart. Intercooperation (IC) is a Swiss NGO with its Headquarters in Bern, Switzerland. IC operates in 23 countries around the world, including Pakistan. Her responsibilities in IC Pakistan include overall programme management, backstopping projects and providing thematic and technical support and networking. Her fields of experience include management of natural resources, particularly collaborative forest management, farm forestry, non timber forest produce, conflict management in natural resource management, dryland management and policy. Other areas include project /programme cycle management, monitoring and evaluation, institutional development of NGOs (local/national), workshops facilitation and documentation. She has been extensively engaged in institutional reforms in NWFP Forest Department and in other policy dialogues related to NRM at national level.
Prior to joining Intercooperation, she served an NGO called Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP), previously Pak-German Self Help Project, in 1993 as Programme Specialist Agro-forestry. In BRSP she streamlined a Social Forestry Master Plan, which received funding from USAID and Government of Balochistan. She also introduced and implemented Range Management and training programmes in Balochistan. She joined Enterprise and Development Consulting (EDC) as Assistant Manager Natural Resources in 1996. She was assigned to work as Advisor Monitoring and Evaluation for the Dutch funded Social Forestry Project Malakand-Dir up in the North West Frontier Province. Later, she served DHV Consultants BV on the same position. She studied effects of the project interventions (extension, community forestry, village land use planning, institutional development) in the project areas. She also developed computerized monitoring programmes and trained Forest Department staff to apply these in their working. She is proficient in Urdu, English, Hindi and Pashto with some skills in Persian and some local languages spoken in Pakistan. She is/has remained on Steering Committees/Board of Governors of a few international organizations and national NGOs including LEAD Pakistan (1999-2004). She is a member of Cohort 4 and participated in trainings in Costa Rica, Japan and Zimbabwe. Ms. Nizami holds Masters and Bachelors degrees in forestry with a specialization in social forestry from the Pakistan Forest Institute (PFI), Peshawar. Being the only female forestry graduate in Balochistan, she was offered the position of Program Specialist in Forestry in the Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP), where she supervised nursery raising, range management, training and general environmental awareness programs in North Balochistan. She has worked closely with rural men and women, often dealing first-hand with poverty, illiteracy and other problems of the region. After four years of her services in BRSP, Ms. Nizami joined Enterprise and Development Consulting (EDC) as Assistant Manager, Natural Resources. Her services have also been seconded to the Social Forestry Project, Malakand Dir (Saidu Sharif, Swat) as Monitoring &Evaluation Specialist where she is involved in conducting various studies on the effects of project interventions (extension, forestry, institutional development) in the area. Dr. Arcadie Capcelea currently is an Environmental Consultant in the Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development Unit for Europe and Central Asia Region at the World Bank. Mr. Capcelea is a LEAD Fellow, Cohort 4, Member of the LEAD Steering Committee for CIS Region. He is graduated at Geographical Faculty of the Moscow State University (1978).
Dr. Capcelea was the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Moldova (1998-1999), Minister of Environment and Territorial Development (1999-2000). In the period of 1990-1998 he was the First Deputy Director General of the State Department for Environmental Protection, Chief of the State Ecological Inspectorate. During the activities the he promoted principles of sustainability as part of the countrys economic development .Under his guidance and with his direct participation were developed more than 20 Environmental Laws, 5 National Strategies and Action Plans in the field of environment.. He received his a Ph.D. in Geography, in 1987, at Moscow State University, at Geographical Faculty. Since 1978 Dr.Capcelea used to work in the Institute of Geography of the Moldovan Academy of Science as researcher, senior researcher and Scientific Director. In 1990 he was elected as the President of the National Geographical Society Published more than 80 scientific works, including 7 books. The areas of his studies are the Geo-ecology, Physical Geography, and environmental protection. Arnold RICALDE was an advisor to the Chair Committee of the Legislative Assembly. He had the responsibility of analyzing and giving opinions of the environmental laws that were presented in Mexico City. Arnold has also created a non governmental organization in conjunction with other environmentalists called Organi-K. He is currently the director of the organization. He studied International Relations at the Instituto Teconológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and he finished his subjects on the year 2000.. Arnold also participated on the Green Party of Mexico from 1994-2004.. From the Green Party he served as the Mexico City youth leader from 1995-1997. He also got involved with the international relations coordinating committee. RICALDE also participated on the presidential campaign of the year 2000. Prior to joining LEAD-Southern Africa as Academic Coordinator in 1999, he had served in the Department of National Parks & Wildlife Management as Principal Ecologist, Chief Ecologist and Assistant Director for seven years. During this time he was responsible for coordinating wildlife research and development activities of professional staff. Previously, he had served as Research Fellow at the University of Zimbabwe. During his 14 year working period in Zambia, he served as Project Co-Manager of an UNDP/FAO Research Project manned by internationally recruited experts; and later served as the Director. Arseny Artamonov is Fellow of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics Russian academy of sciences. He works in a department study of climate processes. Arseny took part in the expedition to study climate change Arctic and Antarctic. He participates in various international programs Monitoring of climatic processes occurring in different places on Earth. Arseny has several publications on relevant topics. His interests related to sustainable development, global climate change, multistakeholder scientific partnership, education for sustainable development and save our planet. In 2004 he graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology on program Ocean and Atmosphere Physics

Since August 2001 to present Mr. Arthur Aroustamov has been a Consultant in interpretation/translation for the Associates in Rural Development, Inc. (ARD) branch in Armenia in support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Sustainable Water Resources Management Project. As the Project Interpreter/Translator Mr. Aroustamov is providing high-quality consecutive and simultaneous oral interpretation of the project meetings and written translation of legal and technical documents in the Armenian, English and Russian languages.
From October 2000 to July 2001 Arthur has been involved as Project Consultant in the preparation of the Natural Resources Management and Poverty Reduction Project under the Ministry of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia funded by the World Bank. He has been responsible for translating and editing all the project reports/studies, as well as background information in the Armenian, English and Russian languages. From March 1990 to September 2001 he has been working as an official at the Ministry of Nature Protection within the International Cooperation Department and Office of the Minister. In his capacities he has been in charge of a wide range of duties varied from Armenian/Russian-English translation of environment-related technical reports and official documents to overall coordination of international cooperation in the area of environmental protection, including bilateral and multilateral agreements and international environmental conventions. In 1996 Arthur has been involved in the �Lake Sevan: Problems and Strategy of Actions� International Conference, a project sponsored by the Armenian Ministry of Nature Protection, United Nations Development Programme, French Embassy in Armenia in cooperation with the World Bank. In the same year he has been also working with the Lake Sevan Environmental Action Program, a project funded by the World Bank. In 1998 on behalf of the Armenian Ministry of Nature Protection Arthur Aroustamov has been supervising the preparation process and management of Armenia Pavilion at the EXPO'98 World Exposition with a general subject �The Oceans: a Heritage for the Future� held in Lisbon, Portugal. Mr. Arthur Aroustamov holds bachelor's degrees in the English Language from the Yerevan Institute of Foreign Languages, and in Environmental Law from the Yerevan University of Ecology and Law. In 1995 he has been awarded with a Master of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations from the American University of Armenia. |

Artur DEMCHUK is the Deputy Dean for International Affairs and associate professor, Faculty of Political Science, Moscow State University (Russia). Currently he is in charge of developing and administering an educational program in Environmental Policy at Moscow State University. Artur Demchuk teaches conflict management and comparative politics, conducts courses in negotiation skills training. His academic interests include the political aspects of sustainable development, environmental policy and conflict management, comparative politics and international relations. In 2000-2001 Artur Demchuk was a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), intern at the Consensus Building Institute (Cambridge, MA) and at the Key Bridge Center for Mediation (Washington, D.C.). In 2003 he was a LEAD intern at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA, London, UK) and in 2004 completed a traineeship at the Directorate General of Political Affairs of the Council of Europe.
In 2006 he was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning (Cambridge, MA) doing research on environmental conflict management. Artur Demchuk has participated in conferences both home and abroad and has published articles on political issues, focusing on Latin America and Russia. He conducts negotiation skills training courses for the Council of Europe officials. His master's degree and doctorate are in philosophy from Moscow State University. |

Arun Kumar SHARMA teaches in the department of geology at Kumaon University in Nanital, India. He specializes in hill slope stability with regard to landslides, erosion and sedimentation in the watersheds of the Himalayan region. As co-principal investigator under the Ministry of Science and Technology, he is entrusted with monitoring and studying seismicity in the Kumaon Himalayas. He received an undergraduate degree in science and a Ph.D. in environmental geology from Kumaon University and a post-graduate degree in applied geology from the University of Roorkee.

Arun Varma is a communicator by profession. He has spent more than a decade in mainstream journalism in India. With focus on business and economy, he has held several positions with media organizations such as The Telegraph, India Today and Press Trust of India, and Doordarshan including that of the Editor. He turned to development communication in 200 1 by raising the achievability question of sustainable development in big societies. Since then, he has been working on developing communication tools for capacity building and raising awareness about sustainable development. His initial work in this area was done at Cambridge University, UK. In 2003, Arun Varma joined The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) as their Advisor (Communications and Outreach).
Arun Varma approaches capacity and awareness building about sustainability issues among the stakeholders of the civil society at two levels. First one is a continuing campaign through preventive environmental management. In sustainable development issues, prevention is a more effective and proactive approach contrary to the generally followed reactive approach of containment (of ecological and environmental disasters). Schools and Youth form one of the frontline target groups. Second level is the campaign through corporations as a corporate social responsibility. Corporates, moneyed citizens they are, need to be sensitized about the need of a sustainable business practice with special emphasis on a triple bottom-line" - economical |
