Teya RYAN
Teya Ryan is General Manager and Executive Vice President of CNN in the US. She has been on the staff of CNN since 1990 when she joined as executive producer of the CNN Environment Unit.

She was formerly Executive Vice President of CNN Headline News and responsible for its relaunch in 2002. Before that she was head of Domestic Networks for the CNN News Group. Ms Ryan has also served as Executive Vice President of CNNfn, the financial network and was also was Executive Producer and creator of the highly popular TalkBack Live, CNN's daily interactive, live talk show.

Before joining CNN, Ms Ryan was Senior Producer of the Science and Society Unit at KCET-TV in Los Angeles. During her six years at the public television station, she produced award-winning programs on human physiology, including The Time of Our Lives, a four-part series about the brain, as well as the documentaries Our Ocean at Risk; Art Off the Wall; and Spare the Rod: The Politics of Child Abuse.

She has received many awards for her work, including a 1994 National News Emmy Award for In Nature's Wake; a 1993 CableACE Award for a 90-minute Earth Summit special; and several American Women In Radio and Television awards. Ms Ryan has a bachelor's degree in social science from the University of California at Berkeley.

Thais CORRAL
Thais Corral is a journalist with a master in public policy by the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Her field of work for the last fourteen years has been in the non profit 'third sector'. She is the founder of three non-profit organizations, two in Brazil--REDEH (Network for Human Development) and CEMINA (Communication, Education, Information on Gender)--and one in the USA, called WEDO (Women Environment and Development Organization) which is one of the biggest international advocacy women's organizations working in the area of political advocacy. All these organizations are concerned with women's political and social empowerment, through the use of leadership training, communication tools and advocacy strategies.

Thais was one of the few women that represented civil society and gender concerned issues at the UN Global Conferences that took place in the 1990s. One of her main interests is the challenge posed by women's contributions to improve global and local governance.

Among her accomplishments is the mobilization of women during the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) through the Women's Action Agenda 21 and Planeta FEMEA, a major event organized by women worldwide at the Global NGO Forum in 1992. In the field of communications, she conceived a women's radio network that gathers 400 community radio programs all over Brazil. She also was very involved in the design of stakeholders' participation in the Brazilian Agenda 21. In the process of the World Summit for Sustainable Development, she coordinated a worldwide consultation, which resulted on a major document, the Women's Action Agenda 2015 that was launched in Johannesburg, September 2002.

In 2003, she coordinated the International Conference on Indicators on Quality of Life and Sustainable Development (ICONS) which represents a major initiative gathering a wide range of stakeholders interested in the debate in Brazil and internationally. She also was a faculty at the prestigious Salzburg Seminar on Environmental Policy and Public Dialogue. As a faculty she also teaches leadership at Fundacao Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro.

She has received several awards that express the acknowledge of her leadership: the '100 Heroines Award', the 'Award Abril Mulher' for her contribution to the improvement of the status of women in Brazil. She was also recognized as 'the Woman of the Year in 2001' by Brazilian National Council of Women.. She also co-chaired the 30th Annual Conference of the Global Health Council in 2003 and is a member of the Commission on Globalisation.

She is a LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) Fellow and a member of Prince of Wales Business and Environment Program of University of Cambridge, UK Network.

She is fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian and French.

Thandi GXABA
Lungiswa Thandiwe (Thandi) GXABA works for the Free State provincial government in South Africa. She is employed in the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism where she is the director for Environmental Affairs. Her directorate is responsible for three major functions. The first function is environmental management which deals with environmental impact assessments (EIAs); pollution control & waste management; biodiversity and the convention for sustainable development (CSD). Under the environmental awareness function the department handles environmental education, conservancies and the cleaning and greening projects in the province. The scientific support services function supports other sections with information from scientific research, experiments carried out and ecological surveys.

She is a member of the land development objectives (LDO) committee in the province and also represents the provincial department at meetings and workshops held with the national Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.

T. Gxaba has an M.Phil Environmental Science and Honours in Botany from the University of Cape Town. Her bachelor's degree in science is from the University of Transkei.

Thavaraj CHANDINI
T. CHANDINI works as a Director in the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. The Ministry is the Central administrative focal point in the Central Government, for formulating policy and programme on environmental issues. Dr. Chandini looks after the Impact Assessemnet of Coal Sector Projects. This includes grant of environmental clearances to coal mining and coal washery projects in the country through an environmental impact assessment study and formualtion of environmental management plan furnished by project proponents of these projects.

Thembinkosi Bethuel Dlamini
Themba Dlamini holds a Masters degree in Geography from the University of KwaZulu
Natal; his thesis title is “A Comparative Assessment of social, economic and
environmental sustainability of savanna woodlands and forests of Botswana, Zimbabwe
and South Africa and implications for alternative practices and policies”. He is in the
process of pursuing his PHD, focusing on the success and failures of environmental management approaches in
South Africa. His main research interests are on the sustainable utilization of savanna woodlands and forests,
particularly in communal lands. (Medicinal plants, herbs, woody and bark harvesting). He previously worked
for the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, where his main focus was on the community forestry
development, participatory forests management, and forestry enterprise development. He was appointed a
national coordinator of the participatory forests management approach in South Africa, to monitor the impact
that the established committees have in the sustainable management of the state forests. In 1998 he was
appointed a researcher at the University of Durban Westville and was more involved with the monitoring and
evaluation of land reform in KwaZulu Natal and Eastern Cape Provinces. Of such importance was his
participation with the European Union, INCO funded the project which aimed at assessing the sustainability of
various savanna land use practices and policies promoting the sustainable utilization of savannas in
Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Out of the research mentioned above, he has managed
the following publications:

Theresa SUBBAN
Theresa SUBBAN qualified as an Urban and Environmental Planner from the then University of Natal and currently works as a Senior Policy Analyst for the eThewini Municipality - City of Durban. Her interest lies in areas of: sustainable integrated development planning, policymaking,integrating local knowledge into planning processes, integrated spatial and land use planning, community-based environmental management and planning, sustainable local economic development,sustainable budgetting and strategic city planning. She is part of a core team, leading the Integrated Development Planning process and the Long Term Planning Framework for the city of Durban in a challenging transformational and restructuring process, building towards a more democratic, equitable and sustainable city. She works in the office of the City Manager and her work area covers policymaking, strategic long term city planning, undertaking research projects, development facilitation and networking /liaison with key develoment partners. Her primary role is to initiate and guide research projects, to monitor changes to the City's short term Integrated Development Plan and the Long Term Development Framework and their implications for development planning over time. This information feeds into the City's key decisionmaking processes.In project planning she is engaged in ensuring that collective action is directed towards areas of greatest development need in the once apartheid segregated city that marginalised majority of its people in enjoying city life. She is committed in strengthening civil society organisations and local government partnerships for jointly creating and promoting a just, equitable and sustainabe city for current and future generations to enjoy a better quality of life.

Theresia WURYANTARI
Theresia Wuryantari is currently working as the Programme Officer Disaster Management at the Hivos Regional Office Southeast Asia in Jakarta. In her capacity, she is in charge of Hivos RO SEA program in Aceh on emergency and rehabilitation/reconstruction works for the population affected by tsunami as well as future potential programs in other disaster-prone areas in Indonesia. Before joining Hivos, Theresia worked for Oxfam GB Indonesia for humanitarian programme works with a focus on conflict- and natural disaster affected areas and communities in Indonesia, especially those displaced by the conflict and natural disaster. She had also a number of experiences in natural resource management works, for instance during her tenure with WWF in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Disaster mangement and natural resource management with right-based approach are her main interests. She has been educated at the Faculty of Law of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London, London, where she took up majors in human rights law and the international environmental law and wrote a dissertation addressing corporate liability and accountability, either in home country and host country jurisdiction.

Thokozani Olex KANYERERE
Thokozani Olex Kanyerere is a Lecturer in Environmental Studies and Health Geography and Development with the University of Malawi. Thokozani obtained his Bachelor of Education majoring in Geography from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College in 1995. Upon graduation, Thokozani worked as a Secondary School Teacher until 1997 when took up a job with High Way Office Movers Company as a Transport /Administrative Officer in Johannesburg (Lenasia), Republic of South Africa.

In 1999, Thokozani went for further studies at the University of Malawi where he obtained Master of Science degree in Environmental Science. Upon graduation, he joined the University of Malawi, department of Geography and Earth Sciences in the Faculty of Science, teaching Environmental Studies and Resource Management, Health Geography and Development and Research Methods courses. In 2002, he went for further studies at the University of Science and Technology, Trondheim in Norway where he obtained Master of Philosophy in Social Change specializing in Health Geography and Development. Thokozani has attended several short courses and workshops on water, health, natural resources management and development issues. Thokozani is also involved in provision of consultancy services in baseline surveys, sustainable livelihoods, environmental health, natural resource management and monitoring and evaluation.

Thomas CHANDY
Thomas CHANDY is a Chief Conservator of Forests in the Forest, Environment & Wildlife Management Department of the Government of Sikkim. He is responsible for policy review, supervision of development programmes and law enforcement in the department. He has been looking at participatory mechanisms in forest development and conservation with the objective of empowering the people to become responsible for sustainable forest management. He is also a member of important inter-departmental committees in the State Government such as the one on sustainable road construction, Sikkim Science Council etc. T. Chandy joined the Indian Forest Service in 1985, and joined the State Government of Sikkim in 1987 as an assistant conservator of forests. During 22 years with the Government of Sikkim, he has handled a variety of assignments in the areas of wildlife, soil conservation, environment and pollution control apart from territorial responsibilities. He has a master's degree from Lucknow University (1981) and a diploma in forestry and allied subjects (1987). He is currently pursuing his Ph.D studies on the theme of impact of climate change and socio-cultural changes resulting from developmental projects on forest use and conservation in Sikkim" at the University of Melbourne on an Australian Leadership Award scholarship of the Australian Government."

Thomas Chifuniro Senganimalunje
Thomas Senganimalunje is lecturer in Physics at and former Head of the Physics Department at Chancellor College, the University of Malawi. He teaches undergraduate Physics and does research in Renewable Energy and Radiation Protection. He is also responsible for the Energy and Alternative Energy courses that are being offered in the Master of Environmental Science degree in the Faculty of Science.

During his career in the Physics Department, he has researched in cost-effective solar powered LED lighting system for rural schools in Malawi. The aim is to replace kerosene lamps with modern LED lights and also to investigate the feasibility of manufacturing such lamps locally.

He is also interested in mapping out the background radiation profile for Malawi. This profile will be used as a baseline to quantify the impact of exploiting our radioactive mineral resource - an industry that is expanding rapidly in Malawi.

Thomas Dodd
Tom Dodd is responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility policy in the European Commission (Directorate‐General for Enterprise and Industry). He has contributed to the development of European Commission policy on CSR, in particular exploring the links between CSR and competitiveness. He has also worked on a number of initiatives to support responsible entrepreneurship and the uptake of CSR amongst small and medium sized enterprises. He wrote the report of the European Expert Group on CSR and small businesses, and is the co‐author of “Small is sustainable (and beautiful!): encouraging European smaller enterprises to be more sustainable”. He gives classes on CSR at Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, and has also taught groups from other business schools including IESE and TiasNimbas.
He started working for the European Commission in 1995, managing emergency humanitarian assistance to various African countries, and subsequently completed a four year posting in the Commission's Delegation in Central America (Nicaragua), where he dealt with EU development aid programmes and trade policy issues. On returning to Brussels he was briefly responsible for relations between the European Commission and Mexico.
He holds a first class honours degree in European Community Studies and Spanish from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and a Masters Degree in European Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
He lives near Brussels with his wife and three daughters.

Thomas Fondjo
Thomas FONDJO is currently Expert & Central Africa Focal Point of the Protected Areas Programme of the International Union for the Conservation of the Nature- Central and West Africa Programme (UICN-PACO).
After having proven reliable in two nationals NGOs, he joined IUCN in 2003 as Technical Assistant of the Regional Programme Coordinator within the ex- Regional Office for Central Africa (IUCN-ROCA). He also worked during one as Facilitator of the implementation of the CEFDHAC (Central Africa Humid and Moist Forests Ecosystems) reformed before joining the protected areas Programme. His experience combines strategic and operational planning, organisational and institutional development, projects/programmes design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, fundraising, research and training, as well at the national as regional level in particular within the framework of the “Parks for peace” project in the Great Lakes region.
He holds a “DEA” in Environmental Law and a 3rd Cycle Doctorate in “Fundamental rights” to which many trainings are added: Strategic planning; Design and management of the project cycle; Monitoring and evaluation of the projects and programmes; Integration of the environment in the development co-operation; Biodiversity conservation policy; Environment and sustainable development; Climate change and protected areas.

Dr. Grammig has an engineering degree and spent 5 years as a consultant in energy systems before undertaking research on technical assistance programmes. He studied at Ecole les hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, from where he gained his doctorate. He is responsible for the Associate selection process at LEAD-Europe, assists in the preparation of the regional residential courses and facilitates cooperation between the Associates.

Thomas Makhambera
Thomas Makhambera works with the Forestry Department in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Environment. Currently, he is working as the Assistant Director of Forestry, responsible for Forestry Regulation and Quality Control. His main day to day work includes forest protection, in form of forest law enforcement, reviews of forest policy and other legal documents in within the Forest Department. He is also involved in drafting documents necessary for engaging the private sector and other interested parties in the management, utilization and trade in forest resources and products from Government owned Plantations and Natural Forests. He is also involved in monitoring compliance to regulations and set standards in the management, harvesting and marketing of forest goods and services.

He likes spending his free time in reading newspapers and watching football, news items and films on television. He is also involved in farming but at a small scale.

Tigran YEGHYAN is currently Procurement and Contracts Manager for MWH Inc - a global leader in the wet infrastructure sector - providing services to a full range of water-related projects and programs ranging from water supply, treatment and storage, dams, water management for the natural resources industry and coastal restoration to renewable power and environmental services, in Washington DC.

Previously worked for leading international development firms, NGOs supporting USAID funded activities across the globe, including IRG, Eurasia Foundation, ARD. Also worked on implementation of water related projects in Armenia funded by the World Bank in late 1990s - early 2000s.

His master's degree in Political Science is from American University of Armenia (1996), and his bachelor's in Geography is from Yerevan State University(1994).

Timotheus Lesmana Wanadjaja has been working as General Manager at Sinarmas since 1997. The company was founded in 1972 and has grown to become Indonesia’s largest pulp and paper group. He is responsible for the business development area.Currently (from April 2005) he is setting up a new department at Sinar Mas Group (the holding of Asia Pulp and Paper Co. Ltd) for corporate social responsibility and sustainable development – Corporate Responsibility Compliance and Sustainability Department and Sinar Mas Foundation in order to leverage the owner social responsibility program to give more benefit for the stakeholder. Timothy Okoro ANIEBONAM is the Founder and Coordinator of Global Agenda for Total Emancipation (GATE), an NGO involved in grassroots mobilization and emancipation. He is also a Development Communication Consultant with Kollage Communications, a media consulting firm. He had earlier worked for the National Directorate Headquarters of the National Youth Service Corps as a Marketing Officer in the Printing Press, and was also at one time a Communications Consultant at Eagle View African Theatre, an NGO based in Abuja.

He holds a bachelor's degree in dramatic arts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in dramatic performance at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Timothy is a member of the Civil Society Consultative Group on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, and also a member of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners.

Tina Artini, a senior government official, is currently head of division for Environmental Assessment (EA) Development at the Indonesian Ministry of Environment in Jakarta which she has joined since 1984. Her responsibilities are to analyse the EIA Study of proposed project development, especially social impact, to develop the Environmental Assessment Policy, Regulation and Guidelines, to develop the Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA)Process in the EA, to develop the Environmental Audit Policy and Guidelines, to develop gender analysis in environmental management, and to develop the social impact assessment guidelines and training.

Prior to this job, she worked at Environmental Impact Management Agency (BAPEDAL) in the EIA Division from 1990 - 2000, and she worked in the Conservation of Natural Resources of the Ministry of Environment from 1984 - 1990.

WANG Tianguang is the vice secretary of CPC Mashan County Committee, the captain of Guangxi People's Government Countryside Work Team in Marshan, and the vice president of the audit department of Guangxi Poverty Alleviation Office. Since January 1997, he has been responsible for poverty alleviation work in Marshan County. From 1992 to 1996, he worked in the Poverty Alleviation Office of Gungxi Province and was responsible for auditing the poverty alleviation fund. Prior to that, he taught auditing at the Financial College of Guangxi. He also worked in the Audit Bureau of Guangxi Province. He has a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from the Zhongnan Finance and Economy University in Wuhan, Hubei Province (1986).

Tingting SHI
SHI Tingting is a banking officer at the headquarters of the Agriculture Bank of China, where she is responsible for finance innovation. Currently, she is studying the relationship between financial sustainable development and environmental protection. She attended the International Finance Seminar with Nikko in 1996; her paper, 'New Business Summary of Agriculture Banks of China', was published in 'Agricultural Finance Research' in 1996. She has a bachelor's degree in economics from the Financial Institute of China (1995), where she was awarded an academic scholarship for her achievements. She also received business training in English from Beijing University and received an English certificate from Cambridge University.

Tini Sastra
Tini Sastra (Ngatini) works at an NGO called Solidaritas Perempuan (Women Solidarity for Human Rights) as Program Officer for Food Sovereignty. Before she joined Solidaritas Perempuan in Jakarta, she was the Executive Director of Solidaritas Perempuan Kinasih in Yogyakarta. She is actively involved in rising awareness on women’s rights and gender perspective from grassroot level to policy-maker. Her work is also closely related to the work of
National Commission on Human Rights and National Commission on Violence against Women. Her previous educational background was from Faculty of Culture and Science University of Gajah Mada Yogyakarta where she earned her bachelor degree.
