Alexander Nascimento is a specialist in socio-environmental education and psychology and holds a masters degree from the Department of Psychology of the Fluminense Federal University (UFF - RJ). He was member and leader in the Brazilian Boy Scouts Union for thirteen years. His career started 19 years ago with projects on environmental education and developing play activities in the natural environment with children and urban youngsters. For the last 15 years he has dedicated himself to the defense of the human rights of children and youngsters who are in a vulnerable situation, an area in which he currently provides advice and consultancy. He is council member of the non-governmental organization Devir Sócio-Ambiental Movement and member of the Coordination Council of the Municipal Group of Integral Attention of the Child and the Adolescent of Niterói/Rio de Janeiro.

Alexandru STRATULAT
Presently Mr. Alexandru STRATULAT is working for the UN in Moldova as the UN Coordination Officer. Since 2006 till 2008 he has worked for the Tacis Project “Support to PCA and WTO Implementation and to EU-Moldova European Neighbourhood Policy Action Plan (ENP AP)†as a Senior Economic Expert. In late 2005 - early 2006 Mr. Stratulat was coordinating a training project called “Regional Programme on the Management of Sustainability Moldova 2005â€, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this programme he has also hold the position of the Faculty Co-director. The programme, organised by Sustainability Challenge Foundation, focuses on issues of sustainable development and conflict resolution, as well as harmonisation of the economic and social development of the modern society. Before he had also implemented another training project of LEAD International, funded by Defra, UK (see bellow), on the Project Proposal Development for Funding from International Sources, as Team Leader and Trainer. In May-November 2004 Mr. Stratulat undertook a secondment to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Europe Environment Division, London, UK. Since 2000 till 2005 he has been a Policy Advisor for the Offices of the Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, responsible for the agricultural and rural development policy drafting, trade and investment related issues. Latter his area of responsibilities has been extended to environmental and energy issues. He was appointed head of sectoral working group “Infrastructure†in the process of development of the Moldovan Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (EGPRSP). After graduation in 1998, Mr. Stratulat was recruited by the Ministry of Economy and Reforms (now Ministry of Economy and Trade) of the Republic of Moldova for the position of Principal Specialist in the Foreign Economic Relations Department. He was involved in the drafting of a number of laws and Governmental resolutions, bilateral agreements with the CIS and EU countries etc. He also fulfilled the duties of the Secretary of the inter-ministerial Co-ordinating Group for Moldovan Export Promotion Activities (GCAPEM). He is also the author and co-author of a number of articles and studies on development and environmental issues. Mr. Alexandru Stratulat holds bachelor’s degrees in the International Economic Relations from “Babes-Bolyai†University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. In 2001 he followed the International Programme on the Management of Sustainability in the Netherlands. As a highly regarded IPMS graduate, Mr. Alexandru Stratulat was appointed in January 2002 member of the Sustainability Challenge Foundation’s Regional Advisory Council for Central/Eastern Europe and in 2004 he graduated the Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) International Programme and became a LEAD Fellow. |

Now occupies the position of Scientific Director and Head of Laboratory in Ukrainian Scientific and Research Institute of Ecological Problems. Specializes in spatial planning of sustainable development at regional and local levels and integrated management of water resources in the transboundary river basin.

Alexei KOURAEV is a scientist at the Laboratory for Satellite Geophysics and Oceanograpy, Toulouse and assistant professor at the Toulouse University Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France. He is studying recent changes in continental hydrology (enclosed seas, rivers, lakes, glaciers) and their relations to climate change and anthropogenic influence. These studies are done by combining satellite remote sensing, in situ observations and numerical modelling. Regions of study include Western Siberia, Caspian and Aral seas, Baikal, Ladoga and Onega lakes, and watershed of Tigris and Euphrates.
A. Kouraev's diploma in oceanography (1992) and Ph.D. in geography (1998) are both from the Moscow State Lomonosov University. His current interests are coastal research and management, satellite oceanography and hydrology, management of water resources, modelling of water dynamics and transport of pollutants, and Marine Geographic Information Systems. |

Alfeu Furriel ABRONHERO is involved in government programs in environmental education at public and private high schools. He has also been involved with coordinating fiscal matters in protected natural areas, updating maps, analyzing environmental programs, and preparing speeches for special events related to the environment. He was responsible for coordinating discussion groups in a project focusing on the sub-products of Brazilian nuts. With an educational background in law, he has attended SEMA - AP training on the environment, the first international meeting of environmental law in the Amazon Region, a seminar on the environmental responsibilities of timber factories, and a seminar on environment and development in the state of Amap�. He also has pursued English language studies in California (USA) and at YAZIGI - AP, where he also studied computer science.

Alfredo Arellano-Guillermo is regional director of protected areas in the Yucatán PenÃnsula, Mexico. Additionally since 1994 is responsible of Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, World Heritage Site. Prior to this, from 1990 to 1994, he was head of department for the Yucatán State Natural Protected Areas System. He has also conducted research and served as natural resources management Coordinator for Monarca A.C. Between 1984 and 1987, he conducted research on biology and conservation of the monarch butterfly with UNAM-University of Florida, and was a technical assistant on population dynamic research at UNAM. He has authored scientific paper and participated in conferences, workshops and the design of planning instruments for natural protected areas and eco-tourism.
A.A. Guillermo has a bachelor's degree in biology from UNAM, where he also completed a course on planning management of natural protected areas. In 1990, he participated in a course on coastal resource management with IFIAS-CINVESTAV. |

Ali Khan has over 20 years of international experience in the Energy sector. He has worked in Finance, Engineering, Environment and Sustainable Development and Information Technology functions of Ontario Power Generation (Canada), Ontario Hydro (Canada), Exxon Chemical (Pakistan) and Schlumberger (Indonesia and Australia). Ali's diversified experience is complemented by an M.B.A. in Finance from University of Texas at Austin and a B.S. in Mechancial Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan.
Ali has held positions with increasing responsibility in Financial Planning, Controllership, Treasury, Environment and Sustainable Development divisions of Ontario Power Generation and Ontario Hydro. Prior to this, he spent 3 years at Exxon Chemical with responsibility for Corporate Planning and Reporting, Project Financing and Divestments. In addition, Ali worked for 2 years as an Oil Exploration and Wire-line Logging engineer with Schlumberger. Ali is currently Manager of Information Technology at Ontario Power Generation Inc., with responsibility for management and oversight of all Corporate IT Systems. In 1998 and 1999, Ali completed fellowships with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in Geneva and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Islamabad. Mr. Jan has been working with LEAD Pakistan as Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist and then as Project Manager. Ali Jan has also worked with World Wide Fund For Nature – Pakistan (WWF – P) as Project Development Officer and then Project Manager of the Northern Areas Conservation Project. He has experience in Integrated Conservation and Development (ICD) approaches and participatory conservation by involving stakeholders and local people in the process. He has been leading professionals in implementation of conservation and development initiatives for five years during his assignments with WWF – Pakistan. Ali Ahmad Jan had started his career from Planning and Development Department, Northern Areas, Pakistan where he served for 7 years from April 1993 to December 1999 He is Fellow of Kinship Conservation Institute (KCI), Property and Environment Research Center (PERC), Bozeman, Montana, USA. He is certified practitioner of AT Kissan Accelerator Tools in Pakistan. Ali Jan has written a number of papers project proposals, project strategies, concept papers and evaluation reports. I was born in 1970 of a polygamous family in the northern region of Burkina Faso. I've completed my secondary education from 1983 to 1990 in Burkina Faso and part of my graduate studies in textiles in Mali from 1992 to 1994. Back from Mali, I am committed to the education sector and today I am a certified teacher in Technical Textiles at the “Lycée Professionnel YENNEGA” of Ouagadougou. I am married since 2000 and father of two children (twins). I took my passion for new technologies for training projects in multimedia and the Internet. Aware that my country needs leaders for development, I am committed in the Lead in 2006 and I am a member of the association Lead Burkina. From August 2008, I am part of the cohort 13 Lead Francophone Africa.
I am very closely issues related to the environment of my country and the sub region. I lead awareness on local environmental issues in my country and I sincerely hope to be among the actors who will make Africa a land of opportunity. |

A. T. Sheikh specializes in institutional development, institutional reforms and in change management. He has vast experience in training and facilitating multi-disciplinary expert groups on policy planning, leadership development and conflict management. He has studied at Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad, Australian National University, Canberra, and University of Miami, Florida, from where he obtained Master's degrees in International Relations and Strategic Studies. He has been a Fellow at the Institute of Soviet and East European Studies (ISEES) Miami; the International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) in London and the Rockefeller Foundation in New York. He has worked as Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad and served as Editor of the quarterly journal, Strategic Studies. He has written extensively on issues of conflict resolution, international negotiations and international treaties in several professional journals as well contributed to leading newspapers in the US, UK and Pakistan, and has contributed chapters to several books. He has delivered lectures at a number of universities and institutions including Oxford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University), the Carnegie Endowment, the Kennan Institute of Advanced Russian Studies and the University of Michigan. He has lectured regularly at Quaid-e-Azam University and the Foreign Service Training Institute, Islamabad. He has been a consultant/advisor to United Nations Development Program (UNDP); UN Educational Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO); The Asia Foundation; and the Rockefeller Foundation. He has worked with the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) Islamabad, on the Regional Action Plan for Asia-Pacific region in cooperation with the UNDP; Asian Development Bank; United Nations Environment Program (UNEP); and the UN Environment and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). He serves on the Board of several nonprofit organizations and is member of various commissions and national committees dealing with environment and sustainable development including the apex environmental body in the country, Pakistan Environment Protection Council (PEPC), chaired by the President of Pakistan. He is a member of the National Environmental Quality Standards Implementation Committee (NEQS - IC); Member of Steering Committee regarding the Preparation and Development of Management Plan for Khirthar National Park & Adjoining Protected Areas; Member of Advisory Committee on National Environment Policy of the Ministry of Environment; Member of Project Steering Committee of Pakistan POPs Enabling Activity: Preparation of the POPs National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention. He also serves on Board of Global Compact in Pakistan. He has been interviewed on several occasions by the national and foreign media on a range of environment and sustainable development issues. |

Alice Born has worked in the area of environmental statistics at Canada's federal statistical agency, Statistics Canada for the past 12 years. She had worked on the development of natural resource stock accounts, in both physical and monetary terms for Canada. Also, she managed five environmental surveys related to the environment industry, environmental protection expenditures by both the private sector and governments, waste management and household environmental practices. She was heavily involved in the development of the United Nation's System of Environmental and Economic Accounting (SEEA) manual which links environmental accounts to the System of National Accounts. Alice was involved with the National Roundtable on the Economy and the Environment (NRTEE), Environment Canada and Statistics Canada Environmental and Sustainable Development indicator initiative for Canada. She has worked measuring the production and use of climate changes technologies as apart of the federal government's Climate Change Action Plan. Currently, Alice is the Assistant Director of Standards Division at Statistics Canada where she works on standardizing definitions, classifications and methodology including standards for various aspects of environmental statistics.

Alina Nekrich is a researcher at the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IGRAS). In 2008 she has defended Ph.D. degree in geography at the IGRAS.
Her scientific experience is connected with environmental conservation of areas of the ore mining complex facilities concentration. Results of her investigations in the area of environment were presented on meetings and conferences in Norway, India, Thailand, Armenia, Ukraine, Russia, USA, UK, Austria. More than 20 scientific publications by A. Nekrich in Russian peer-review journals like «Geoecology», «Problems of Regional Ecology», «Izvestia of the Russian Academy of Science, series Geography» have been published during her ongoing scientific and practical work. A.Nekrich is a member of the National Contact Point in the European Union Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development (FP7). Also she has joined Russian Association for Canadian Studies. Her academic interests include: GIS(Geographic Information Systems), global man-induced changes of the environment, land use changes, landscape planning, ecological assessment of territories, anthropogenic effects (especially field development) on ecosystems. |

She worked as head of the public relations department at Manovo SA, a company developing the ecotouristic park Manovo Gounda SaintFloris(CAR). She is a member of several youth organisations working towards peace in the world, youth development and the protection of the environment. She took part at several meetings in international youth organisations in the Hague, Dakar and other cities. She also worked towards several resolutions to promote youth throughout the world. Thanks to her dynamism and her competence, she took part at several meetings (national, regional and subregional) for the protection of environment. Mother of two children, since 2002 Aline Gisele Pana has been the Director of the Touristic Promotion at the Ministry of Water, Forest, Hunt, Fish, Environment and Tourism of the Central African Republic. |
