From 1994 to 1998, Muggiati worked as a reporter for Folha de S. Paulo, one of the main Brazilian newspapers, where he has occupied the post of correspondent in the Amazon Region. After leaving the newspaper in 1998, Muggiati began to work as a freelance journalist for several publications. In 1999, he wrote, directed and edited a documentary video about the Mamiraua Sustainable Development Reserve in the Amazon flooded forests, showing the difficulties of the implementation of a development project focused on preservation.

From 2000 to 2002, he has been the editor of the www.amazonia.org.br website, maintained by Friends of the Earth - Amazon. In 2002 he was sponsored by UN Foundation to cover the World Summit on Sustainable Development, in Johannesburg, South Africa. In this year, he also finished another video documentary 'The Next Petrobras Accident', about a gas pipeline project that shall cut through pristine areas of the Amazon Forest.

From July 2003 to June 2004, Muggiati worked as Communications Consultant for Ibama (Brasil's environment protection agency) and UNDP (United Nations Development Program), in the elaboration of the Action Plan Against Deforestation in the Amazon.

Since June 2004, Muggiati is a Communications Consultant for Greenpeace - Amazon Campaign, in Manaus.
