MA Xiaorong is now a Ph. D. candidate of Nanjing University. Her major is Anglo-American Literature.

Xiaorong is also an English teacher at the Foreign Language Institute, Sichuan Normal University. Many students found her teaching inspiring and interesting. Ranking No.4, she was even voted by students as one of 'the Ten Best Teachers' of Sichuan Normal University (ten out of two thousand teachers). Her work experience also includes: Program Assistant of Peace Corps/China; Interpreter of UNICEF (The United Nations Children's Fund) Sichuan Program; Youth Volunteer of Environment Protection. She is also appointed as executive director of Research Department of Women's Studies Center in Sichuan Normal University.

Graduated with honors, Xiaorong got an MA in 2002 and a BA in 1999. Having majored in English, she has become familiar with not only the language but also the culture which the language represents. Her intercultural experience has enabled her to communicate well with people from other countries and to become sensitive to differing opinions and new concepts.

MA Xiaorong was born in Panzhihua, a city at the upper reach of Yangtze River. As the second generation of this young city, she is proud of the industrial and mining development of that city. The supply of resources, like rich rare minerals, open coal mines, and the Ertan Hydropower Station, seem to be endless, waiting for development. Over time she has come to realize the immeasurable destructive effect caused by thoughtless exploitation. Can China find a way to sustainable development? She hopes the training she is getting from LEAD will help her to find the answer.
