Qi Xinshan has a master's degree (1989)and a doctor's degree (2005) in ecology, both from Shandong University.

From July 1989 to June 2001: QI Xinshan was with the Agro-environmental Protection and Monitoring Station of Shandong Province. As the section chief and senior agronomist, he was mainly in charge of eco-agriculture development in Shandong province, which is considered a feasible way to realize the sustainable development of Chinese agriculture. He assisted the station director in the management and planning of the government's eco-agriculture projects, conducted related experiments and promoted the use of advanced techniques in Shandong province.

Rrom July 2001 to now: Qi Xinshan has been working in Shandong Provincial Environment Inspection Station, which is an important department of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Shandong Province. As a vice director and a Professor, he is mainly engaged in the protection of ecological environment and natural resources.
