Varghese MANALOOR, is Associate Professor of Economics and Management, at Augustana Faculty, University of Alberta. His teaching interests are applied microeconomics (environmental and development economics) and quantitative methods. His research interests are in sustainable development issues (GHG emissions, ecotourism), and food and nutrition policy.
At Augustana, Varghese has taken on administrative and advisory roles. In 1998, he was the academic advisor for Augustana's Rural Development exchange program with Mexico. Most recently, along with his colleague, he has developed an India Study Tour course, in which students learn, first hand, the work of various development organizations and the challenges they face.
In June 2005, he presented a paper on 'The Impacts of the Removal of Farm-Fuel Tax Rebate on CO2 Emissions from Prairie Agriculture', at the 28th IAEE (International Association of Energy Economics) conference held in Taipei, Taiwan.
Varghese completed his PhD from the University of Saskatchewan and worked for a year as a Research Associate before joining Augustana in 1996.
