Lungiswa Thandiwe (Thandi) GXABA works for the Free State provincial government in South Africa. She is employed in the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism where she is the director for Environmental Affairs. Her directorate is responsible for three major functions. The first function is environmental management which deals with environmental impact assessments (EIAs); pollution control & waste management; biodiversity and the convention for sustainable development (CSD). Under the environmental awareness function the department handles environmental education, conservancies and the cleaning and greening projects in the province. The scientific support services function supports other sections with information from scientific research, experiments carried out and ecological surveys.

She is a member of the land development objectives (LDO) committee in the province and also represents the provincial department at meetings and workshops held with the national Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.

T. Gxaba has an M.Phil Environmental Science and Honours in Botany from the University of Cape Town. Her bachelor's degree in science is from the University of Transkei.
