Dr Annie Fabian CHIMPHANGO is a lecturer at Stellenbosch University, Department of Process Engineering in South Africa.

Annie holds a PhD in chemical engineering from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Her work focused on developing a biological technology for production of speciality biopolymers from lignocellulosic materials in an integrated biorefinery set up. Annie has a master's degree in agricultural engineering from McGill University in Canada (1997), a bachelor's degree in agriculture with distinction, and a diploma in agriculture with credit from the University of Malawi. She is involved in research on development of technology for sustainable bioenergy value chains, conversion of municipal and industrial solid waste into high value products, postharvest engineering and food security. Previously she worked as a project coordinator/ manager for a Danish 92 group Rio +10 project in Southern Africa, based at Environmental monitoring Group in Cape Town, South Africa. Her role was to assist the civil society networks in Southern Africa in their preparation and participation in the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD). The work involved quite a lot of networking, sharing of information, research on WSSD emerging issues, and capacity building in lobbying and advocacy. She also worked as lecturer in agricultural engineering at the University of Malawi, Bunda College of Agriculture, in Malawi. Areas of interest included the development of appropriate technologies for rural locations, crop storage and processing, and food processing and preservation. She has also worked for Lever Brothers (MW) (a subsidiary of Unilever in Malawi) as a management trainee in Agribusiness section where she was overseeing production, processing and marketing of hybrid maize and sunflower seeds.
