Anna Tayari MAEMBE is the Director of Environmental Information, Communication and Outreach at the National Environmental Management Council in Tanzania, where she is in charge of the directorate environmental education, information management and communication activities. Her published works include Mapping of Fires in Miombo woodlands using remote sensing, Monitoring Vegetation Cover change in Mtera area and use of Indigenous Knowledge in Management of Rangelands among the Maasai Communities. She has participated in several international and national conferences such as the 1994 UNESCO Symposium in Islamabad, Pakistan,United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development session 9 (CSD 9) in New York (April 2001) and Prepratory Meetings for Rio + 10 in New York in 2002. A.T. Maembe holds a Masters of Science in Rural Land Ecology Survey from the International Institute of Geoinformation and Remote Sensing (ITC)of Netherlands and a bachelor's of Science degree in zoology, botany and education from the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. In addition, she has received training in GIS and remote sensing, international information management and environmental education from Kenya and Scotland respectively.
