Amit Kumar JAIN is an Additional Secretary for the Home Department, in Gangtok. He is responsible for timely policy management pertaining to law & order, policing, affairs of Council of Ministers, new policy legislation and computerisation et. al. He is also associated with the preparation of the State Human Development Report 2000 and Sikkim Vision, a perspective planning document emphasising sustainable development models for the State. In 1998-99 A. Jain worked for the Sikkim Finance & Development Corporation as Managing Director by creating a model watershed development project and also identified entrepreneurs, orchestrated the release of loan assistance for micro-enterprises and entrepreneurship development.
He previously worked as District Collector & Magistrate and Sub-divisional Collector & Magistrate where he managed land administration, development and compliance on district programs, calamity relief management, judicial work and conduct of elections.
His interests in the environment and development stress sustainable development models for Sikkim and continuing to work on applying GIS tools preparing models for watershed development schemes on the national level, and development of fuel-saving and efficient Gasifier based portable heating system for scientific curing of large cardamom.
