Ambroise Urbain FOUTOU works, since January 2003, as an Engineer responsible for water project studies and environment within the Direction of Planning of ENERGIE DU MALI - EDM SA.EDM SA, the malian society which produces and distributes potable water and electricity in Mali.

His main responsibilities include supervision of all water projects, development and implementation of environmental management system, draft Terms of References (ToRs) for Environmental Impact Assessment Studies, monitoring and evaluating the environmental aspects of projects, recommending mitigation measures and Environmental management plans to improve on Environmental Assessment.

Prior this function, Mr. FOUTOU was Head of Development / Environment Department within the Engineering Consultants Company ICOTED International. His responsibilities included development projects formulation and implementation on rural and urban areas, environmental impact assessment and studies of all projects realized by ICOTED International.

Between 1996 and 1999, Mr. FOUTOU was Responsible of environment within AGRICONGO Institute. He coordinated all of training, economic studies and research missions for the experimental project AVOBRA, financed by the European Union and which concerns the collection and the recycling of the domestic garbage in certain districts of Brazzaville.

From 1993 to 1995, Mr. FOUTOU has been the responsible if projects studies within 'Société Congolaise de Technologies' in Ponte Noire - CONGO. He managed the drinking water supply project in the west and south districts of Pointe Noire.During this period, he also served as an advisor within the local representation of NGO 'Forum des Jeunes Entreprises de Comafrique', and helped many young Congolese for creating their micro and small enterprises.

Mr FOUTOU has worked as a Consultant on environmental impact assessment for many Engineering Company in Mali and CONGO-Brazzaville (ETHIIQS Technologies SARL, CIRA SARL, BGET, INGERCO,IMPACT PLUS) and for German,French and luxembourgian Agencies for technical cooperation.

Mr. FOUTOU holds Civil Engineer degree in hydraulic from 'Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs' of Bamako- Mali and Civil Engineer degree in environment, from 'Ecole Mohammadia d'Ingénieurs' of Rabat- Morocco.

Mr. FOUTOU took part in several seminars on climate change, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), the Environmental Impact Assessment and the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).

He is also qualified in the fields such as the capacity building; the conception, the follow-up and the evaluation of the projects of development.

He is the author of the following technical documents: the management of the domestic garbage in Bamako- Mali (1996); the management of the domestic garbage in Ouagadougou -Burkina Faso (1997); the management of the domestic garbage in the main cities of CONGO Brazzaville (1999); legislative, statutory and institutional Frame and procedures of environmental impact studies in Mali (2003).

He is co-founder of National Association of LEAD, LEAD MALI and currently the President. He is also a member of some environmental group as Club Vetiver, Malian Environmental Impact Studies Association (AMEIE), Groupe GIRE 2005 ( Integrated Water Resources Management group).

His interests include environment and sustainable development, solid and water waste management, Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), Ecohealth approach, Corporate Social Responsability (CSR), climate change, human right; Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
