Andrea DERI, independent consultant specialised on capacity development and research initiatives to promote sustainable development.
During her 20+ years international career Andrea held various senior capacity development positions at LEAD International, London; Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan; Institute for Sustainable Communities, Vermont, USA; US Peace Corps, Hungary; U.K. Field Studies Council's Hungarian Foundation, Hungary.
As a freshwater ecologist, Andrea conducted research on the Danube at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. She has a MSc degree in biology from Eotvos L. University, Budapest. Her honors include grants from the Soros Foundation at University of Toronto, and from the Rockefeller Foundation at IGES, Japan. She is a LEAD Fellow, member of Balaton Group and the Board of Directors of the Global Community Initiative and IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (CEC).
As a trainer, Andrea has been promoting active & interactive approaches to adult learning by working collaboratively with government agencies, NGOs, intergovernmental organizations, academic institutions, and local communities.
Andrea's special interests include learning (especially eLearning, online learning), knowledge systems (especially indigenous knowledge) and their role in resilience and adaptive capacity, scenario building, system thinking and innovative approaches to decision-making.
