Anja Köhne is currently working on her doctorate on the integration of environmental matters in EU foreign policy.
As an independent political consultant she focuses on European and international environmental policy with an emphasis on institutional questions, instruments, climate and energy and their interdependencies with development politics. Her consultancy contracts included the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety on the World Renewable Energy Conference in June 2004 in Bonn (www.renewables2004.de), the WWF European Policy Office (Strategy and network project on 'EU-25 Energy and Climate Policies'), Greenpeace Germany and other NGO and NGO networks.
In honorary functions, Ms Köhne serves as a board member of the development and environment NGO Germanwatch (www.germanwatch.org) as well as of the German ecological research institute 'ko-Institut / Institute for Applied Ecology (www.oeko.de).
Her previous career included the following posts:
- Research Fellow at the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), Bonn
- European Coordinator of the German Marshall Fund of the US Environmental Fellowship Programme on Climate Change (www.gmf.org)
- EU-Coordinator at the German League for Nature and Environment (www.dnr.de), the umbrella organisation of German environmental NGO, in this function, she served, among others, in the following offices:

- Desk officer for EU / CEE / Transatlantic Issues at the Heinrich Boell Foundation central office in Berlin (www.boell.de)
Her educational career involved studies at the University of Cologne (national economics, English literature, history) as well as at the University of Dundee, Scotland (Contemporary European Studies and English and Scottish Literature), where she graduated with a 1st Class Honours Master of Arts degree.
Anja Köhne was born in 1965 in Cologne, is married and now living in Berlin.
