Anna Cecilia Avelar CORTINES is the coordinator of Ilha Grande's Sustainable Development Project for the Municipal Government of Angra dos Reis. This project aims at protecting the island and creating alternative economic opportunities for the local people such as ecotourism and mussel production. She has also worked within the Municipal Government in strategic planning and has experience in agriculture, and agrarian and fishing policies. She has a bachelor's degree in agronomy from the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro and a post-graduate degree in environmental science from Universidade Estacio de S�, in Brazil.
